Rainy Week by Eleanor Hallowell Abbott (1872 - 1958).

Volunteers outside the USA: Eleanor Hallowell Abbott died in 1958. Her work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/rainy-week-version-2-by-eleanor-hallowell-abbott/
A couple invite people of different walks of life to their cottage along the beach, during the rainiest week of the year. The gathered people are unknowing actors in a carefully crafted play that is created by inviting personalities that can be manipulated by the ever changing environment, or by other nearby personalities. ( Glenn Koster, Jr.)
“To be indeed absolutely explicit experience has proved, with an almost chemical accuracy, that, quite regardless of "age, sex, or previous condition of servitude," this particular combination of Romantic Passion, Psychic Austerity, Tragedy, Ambition, Poignancy, Innocence, And Irritation, cannot be housed together for even one Rainy Week without producing drama!” (Eleanor Hallowell Abbott)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/43025
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This project was an abandoned solo now being offered as a group project.

Rainy Week by Eleanor Hallowell Abbott (1872-1958) (abandoned Feb 2015)
Text: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/43025
Project Thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=55147
Total # of sections: 11
Sections completed: 2 (PL OK)
File location: ~uploads/abandoned/rainyweek

There is a DR of this in DW but I thought it would be nice to offer listeners a choice. I couldn't bring myself to let the readers work go to waste when I turned their book into a DR.

There is a difference in section numbers from the original solo but I'll be going with how I broke down the chapters for the DR.

I will DPL.

Linny,

I don't know if you noticed, but this is underway right now as a Dramatic Reading here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=61461

No problem having two different versions, but I question if we should wait to move ahead with the group recording until the DR is closer to completion.

Yes, the DR is mine as well. I thought the option would be nice for listeners. If you think we should hold off that's fine. Do you want to put it over in Suggestions or delete it? I have the initial post saved so it doesn't matter to me.

The DR is now full. Should we begin this group read now?

Sure Linny,

I'll move this over to the launch pad. I'll let someone else MC to avoid confusion (because I'll already have the DR reading files in my upload folder).

Linny,

You are most welcome.

Project removed from the Abandoned list.

Links for old files are in the MW; files have been transferred. I see you have the rest of the MW filled in already.

Are you planning on doing the DPL?

Yes, I'll DPL. When you have a moment would you provide the original summary? I haven't seen it and I will likely prefer it to what I have.
