In analysing the Faker one must dissociate him from the common forger; his semi-artistic vocation places him quite apart from the ordinary counterfeiter; he must be studied amid his proper surroundings, and with the correct local colouring, so to speak, and his critic may perchance find some slight modicum of excuse for him. Beside him stand the Imitator, from whom the faker often originates, the tempter who turns the clever imitator into a faker, and the middleman who lures on the unwary collector with plausible tales.
It is not the object of this volume to study the Faker by himself, but to trace his career through the ages in his appropriate surroundings, and compare the methods adopted by him at various periods of history, so far as they may be obtained. (from the Preface)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
I'll start on this once I finish my current recording (which hopefully should be tomorrow), but I thought it would be good to get this up and running first (and to get it before anyone else gets inspired by the post on Book Suggestions [and I should note I thought of doing this before that post was posted {Woo, nested brackets!}]...).
I only hope the amount of Latin, and Latin and Greek names lessens after the first few chapters. Here are my notes for Chapter 2, for example:
And this is for a chapter of only about 3,800 words...

Oh, I'm going to do this!
To be honest, I kind of like working out the Latin. With how logical the rules of Latin pronunciation are, it's almost like a puzzle. Find the long vowels (Wiktionary is really useful for this), find the stressed syllable (penultimate if it has a long vowel, a diphthong, or a consonant at the end; antepenultimate otherwise), then rewrite it phonetically (this PDF is really useful for that).

I should be able to start again in the new year.
No worries. I haven't been recording over the Holiday either. But a solo is on your schedule, anyway. We just ask you check in every month or so to say you're still planning to do it.
I just noticed this post saying that end silences can now be 5 seconds. As such, I have edited the first post, and will use five seconds for all my files.
