The Enterprise of the ''Mayflower'' by Amice MacDonell ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-enterprise-of-the-mayflower-by-amice-macdonell/

Volunteers outside the USA: We do not know the exact date of Amice Macdonell's death; however as far as I can tell she was still alive in 1955. Her work would still be protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1954)
We all know the story of the Pilgrims, who fled religious persecution in Europe and sailed to America on the Mayflower, where they endured a terrible winter and finally celebrated "Thanksgiving" on the shores of the New World. Now is the time to lend your voice and journey with the brave Pilgrims in this historical play! (Summary by Rachel, will be replaced before cataloguing.)
  • Please see the next post after this for more information before you choose a part.

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/historicalplaysf00macd#page/2/mode/2up
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

If you are reading stage directions, please include for each file: At the beginning: Act [#] of The Enterprise of the ''Mayflower'', by Amice Macdonell. This is a Librivox recording. This is another play from the "Historical Plays for Children" series from which we have already done three or four plays. They are a lot of fun, and I'm hoping to eventually get all the plays done from Volumes I and II!

I would appreciate it if you could wait on claiming until the MW is up. :)

There are a few songs in the play. You don't have to be a professional singer to be part of it though - most of the singing is done in groups, anyway. Characters with solos will be noted in the MW. If you would really rather not sing, PM me - the groups will work fine if they’re missing a couple of characters. I will be posting links to the music to sing along with, either in the MW or the first post. Super thanks to Twinkle for playing the music for us! Image

Looking forward to working on this project!

Quotes in the project title are OK. They just don't work in the section titles.

Thanks for setting this up, Tricia! The MW is all filled in, I think. I'll post the sing-along files tomorrow, probably. We're now open for claiming :)

Adele - You might want to try Samoset? He's a young man with a medium-smallish part, so I'm good with having a girl for him. He has one song at the end. Cushman is about the same size, he also has one song, and Carver has two songs. I'm afraid there aren't many young women parts in this play ... :(

Here is Ellen Billington for Act II (I didn't see any lines for her in Act I):

Maybe you don't want this yet, though, because it doesn't have the second song in it ("The rock beneath us, and behind..."). :hmm:
