Once upon a time, a princess was born, and a fairy cursed her with a mind: "She is a woman-child, and yet she shall think. She shall be alien to her own sex, and undesired by the other. She shall ask and it will not be given her. She shall achieve and it shall count her for naught. Men shall point the finger at her like this...and shall whisper, 'There goes the woman with brains, poor thing!" This and four other joyful feminist fairy tales make up The Princess Pourquoi. Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

     Set your recording software to:
     Channels: 1 (Mono)
     Bit Rate: 128 kbps
     Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
     No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
     Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
     START of recording (Intro)
     • "Section [number] of The Princess Pourquoi. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
     • If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
     • Say:

     END of recording
     • At the end of the section, say:

     Need noise-cleaning?
     Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

     128 kbps MP3

Hooray! Each of the stories is about 40 pages long, so I split each one into two MW sections. I'm assuming that each reader will want to read their whole story, so they can split their files wherever it feels natural - but if you're a reader who only wants to read part 1 or part 2 of a story, let me know and I'll pick out a reasonable section break.

Excellent, thanks! That's probably the way to go about it - I just figured that the stories were long enough that each one would need at least two parts.

I updated the first post to make the intro make sense for the way this book is set up. I think saying "Section 1" instead of "Chapter 1" would be more logical, and then for the chapter title you can say "The Princess Pourquoi, Part 1" or "Part 2" or whatever.

Oh, and I'm going to pick up the title story for myself, couldn't resist.
