Don't know if your situation was the same, but I got a new mike, and there was a horrible buzzing the background (no click, click). Several months and several pieces of extra equipment later, and I learned that mine was a directional mike and had to be pointed the right direction. In addition, I had to do exactly the opposite of what the conventional wisdom said -- to turn up the gain on my mic and turn down the volume in Audacity. It made a huge difference.

I've got some time off coming up and I'm hoping to finish reading the rest of the book in one fell swoop.
BUT, that depends on whether this quality of recording is acceptable.
Microphone Gain of -1.2
Microphone Gain of -1.5
What do you think? which is better? Is either acceptable? Do I need to try a different gain?

thanks,

Both are perfectly acceptable. I had to listen to them both about 5 times to find any difference between them. I think the 1.5 picks up more of the lower tones of your voice, which is good. The more tones we can get, the easier it is to hear. But I really had to struggle to find any difference at all. Either would certainly work. There certainly isn't any audible hum or clicking, and the sound is quite clear.

Chapter 72 uploaded

I'm not really happy with it, (You'll KNOW when it switches to the new recording setup). But it seems to be the best quality I can get now. <sigh>

I got a lot of recording done while on vacation (up through chapter 80), but its going to need a lot of editing. Still, should be making faster progress now.

Any advice on how to improve the recording quality would be gratefully received.

The quality of the new recording is fine. You and I are disappointed because we know how much richer your voice is, and that the new setup loses the lower notes. It's startling when we go from one setup to the other. But without the comparison, the new sound is just fine.

I only have the most nitpicky things this time. A few uninvited s's insinuated themselves into your reading.

At 4:31, I hear disciples instead of disciple
At 8:28, I hear towards instead of toward
At 9:40, I hear afterwards instead of afterward
At 9:48, I hear towards instead of toward

Having audacity problems. Upgraded to xubuntu 16.04 64bit, installed Audacity fresh, have version Audacity 2.1.2 now.
And suddenly my mp3 export isn't working the same anymore.
When I go to File/Export Audio
I get this:
Image
I can change the .aiff extention to .mp3, but on the quality tab I have these options:
Medium 145-185 kbps
Standard 170-210 kbps
Extreme 220-260kbps
Insane 320kbps

Selecting medium results in 45kbps
Selecting Standard results in 53kbps
Selecting Extreme results in 65kbps
Selecting Insane results in 160kbps

Something is very not right here and I am doing something very wrong. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Afraid I am not of any help; don't even know what xubuntu is. Perhaps you should post that same thing in the Need Help thread.

ok, I was just being a moron. new menu, everything looked different, and I didn't switch from preset to constant. <sigh>

Chapter 73 uploaded. This one seemed to be taking forever to edit, uploaded and realized it was the longest chapter yet. 43.15

I haven't done the fixes on chapter 72 yet, will have those done shortly.

Glad you figured it out! I was thinking maybe it was a missing codec or something, and that's completely outside my realm of knowledge.

The first half of chapter 73 went pretty well, but something happened in the last half--maybe just fatigue. This chapter is very long.

7:52 "he" instead of "ye"
22:41 "Psalms" instead of "Psalm"
22:56 "towards" instead of "toward"
23:11 "Matt 26:31" missing
23:36 "chambers" instead of "chamber" ? see what you think--it might just be a transition to the J
25:29 "had" missing
27:06 "My" instead of "Mine"
27:16 "the type" instead of "a type"
28:53 "The scion is engrafted into the living vine" is missing
29:11 "weaknesses" instead of "weakness"
29:48 "There" instead of "This"
30:09 "cannot" instead of "can"
31:16 "life instead of "lives"
32:42 extra word "to"
32:52 "rooms" instead of "room"
38:11 extra word "he"
38:35 missing word "the"
38:38 missing word "that"
40:19 "they are to have power" repeated
41:58 missing word "the"

Looks like we still have a little more work to do on 72 & 73. I hope none of these were misses on my part the first time around. I apologize if they were.

Chapter 72 @ 4:31, "that" is missing

Chapter 73 @ 27:08 "He declared" is missing
@ 30:15 I hear "ye" instead of "you"
@ 33:23 I think I hear "you" instead of "ye". That's a very short syllable, and I could be wrong.
