Hi,
Chap 2 part 3 is PL OK!
I only speak English so I'll PL slowly when the French and German comes up. I'll read along and that should help me out a lot.

If you need help with the German, just let me know!
Cheers, Ava.

Well, here we go with Chapter 3 part 1. I managed to get some help with the French, so I'm reasonably happy with it. I don't think it'd stand scrutiny by a native French speaker though!

I had another look at the German passage, and noticed that it has a translation after it, so I think I'll skip the actual German and just read the translation if that's ok

This is PL OK!
I reached way back for my high school French to follow along and it sounded great.
Betty
No, you can't do that unless the German is in a footnote. Otherwise here as always: read the text as written.boojumuk wrote:I had another look at the German passage, and noticed that it has a translation after it, so I think I'll skip the actual German and just read the translation if that's ok

A couple of things - at 11:07 the text reads 'his strength is now' and I think it should be 'his strength is low' so that's what I recorded.
Also, my copy of Audacity was playing up and I realised I haven't upgraded it for some years. So I uploaded the latest version only to find they've messed with the output settings on the noise reduction, and the export to MP3. I think the noise setting is ok - sounds alright to me anyway, and I took a guess at the bitrate for the mp3, and went for 'pre-set'; quality at 'standard'; and variable speed 'fast' . Not sure if it makes any difference or not (Ava?). If it does, let me know the correct settings and I'll export and upload it again.

P.S. I've been reading up on the 40 foot telescope, and I was mistaken about the mirror - it was indeed made of cast metal, and not glass as I thought. It was 47" diameter, and made of speculum, an alloy of copper, tin and arsenic (no wonder they had to keep polishing it!), and weighed just over 1000lbs! The original is in the Science Museum in London

Hi,
I've PLed the two files and section 8 is PL OK!
However, according to the checker section 9 might be the wrong bit rate. It should be 128. Can you confirm the bit rate? My checker might not be accurate
When you upgraded Audacity some setting might have changed accidentally.
Readings are super, as always.

Yes, I think it was a bit higher than 128, I'll try and check it tomorrow if I get time

OK, found the correct settings in Audacity, and it should be ok now.
