Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist by Alexander Berkman (1870 - 1936).

This abandoned project is being adopted as a group project by ChuckW.
In 1892, anarchist and Russian émigré Alexander Berkman was apprehended for the failed assassination of industrialist Henry Clay Frick. This was a retaliatory act meant to incite revolution against those who had violently suppressed the Homestead Steel Strike — but for Berkman, it was a crime that ultimately led to his 14 year incarceration in Pennsylvania’s notorious Western Penitentiary. First published by Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth Press, Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist is a classic of autobiographical literature that recounts his experiences in the brutal, dehumanizing world of America's prison system. 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/34406
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi there and welcome!

I have seen you have done your test and received an OK on it - well done! This is a good time to start a solo, but honestly, I don't think that this particular one is a good one for a beginner:

It has 144.000 words, which will make a finished recording of about 20 hours. This will take you MONTHS to complete!

Please, before you start this, take up a couple of chapters here and there in a group project to see whether this whole recording and editing stuff is really something you'd like to do in all your evenings for the next months...
Cheers,
Ava.

I'm not necessarily new to recording audiobooks. I've had a very large-scale audiobook project on my youtube channel for about 8 months now and I've also read this specific work about three times. Is it really such hard thing to do?

We do like readers to succede with their first solo - so we do like them to know a bit about how LibriVox projects work but I'll set this up for you.

Notes re MW
I've added titles for your first 2 sections just as an example but you can use the chapter no. instead if you prefer in which case you would have to put "Part 1 chapter 1" type of thing as there are several chapter 1's . I've changed the intos and outros to say section number not chapter for the same reason .
You seem to have badly underestimated the number of sections you will need ? The database record is made from the template you fill in at the start , but you can add more sections as you go.

OK I've done my bit - the Magic Window is now up to you . Ideally I'll be back to catalogue it when it's all read and PLed
This should help you get going

Looks good. If you click on your name in the MW you will see your page - nothing much on it but it does have your catalogue name and url you can check.

That would be nice - it's always good to have a DPL for a new LVer, I'll add you and take down the banner.

It,s a good idea to post in the thread when you upload files, some dpls rely on being notified when there are files to PL. You just need to say 4 files uploaded or something .

Great readings!

One thing to remember is that there needs to be a period of silence at the end of each section - 5 seconds if the section is shorter than 30 minutes, and 10 seconds if it is 30+ minutes long. That being noted, the PL Notes are going to look a bit redundant. :)

Section 0 - needs 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Section 1 - 22:31 - stumble "pers-perspiration", needs the "end of section 1" statement, needs 10 seconds of silence at the end.

Section 2 - needs 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Section 3 - needs 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Section 4 - the section repeats itself starting at 04:20. I would suggest keeping the second half of the file. needs 5 seconds of silence at the end

Section 5 - needs 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Wonderful, I will fix all of these when I have time this afternoon. Thank you very much.

All fixed! I hoped I could get some more recordings today but unable. Tomorrow for certain however!
