The Phoenix and the Carpet by E. Nesbit (1858 - 1924).

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/the-phoenix-and-the-carpet-version-3-dramatic-version-by-e-nesbit/
Cyril, Robert, Anthea and Jane need a new carpet for the nursery, but it turns out to be a magic carpet containing a phoenix egg! They discover how to hatch the egg, but a magical creature with a big ego and a wishing carpet leads straight to another hilarious series of adventures! Throw in a thief, a cook, a lot of cats and a cow, and stir well with a Phoenix feather for a recipe for excitement...

The second book of the "Psammead" trilogy, following on directly after "Five Children and It" sees the children once again being caught up in magic events which, despite their best intentions, cause chaos and usually result in their being sent to bed! 1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/836
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

No recordings yet, but wanted to make a correction: I had claimed Herbert in Chapter 5, not the Porter. :)

Sorry! I'll fix that. I was looking at the MW at 11pm last night and thinking it didn't look quite right but I couldn't see it!

Thanks everyone for those files, I'll update the MW today.

Twinkle, I did PL those last two files just before the crash. The clerk was PL OK, and so was the group credit - thanks for that! Miss Amelia was missing the first three lines for the character in that chapter.

Aaron, I'll check my notes, but thanks for chapter 4! I have a feeling one chapter of your had PL notes on it, the rest were PL OK. I'll have a look at my computer.

I don't remember if they were PL OK or not... Sorry! Chapter 4 had not been PLed as it is new.
Chapters 2, 3 and 5 are PL OK. Chapter 1 had some PL notes, but you must have corrected them already - this file is now PL OK!

Chapter 4 sounds like a draft - there are stutters followed by correct repeats. Can you please edit this down yourself to the single best version of each line, then reupload it. It's too confusing for the editors if there are multiple copies of lines in a file.

Oh no! Did I forget to edit? I stuttered sometimes for emphasis.... like when my character felt awkward, but that was mostly mild. I'll get to it soon.

Beth, how are we pronouncing 'Psammead'?

Funny story, I googled to find out if there was an accepted pronunciation out there in the world (there wasn't) and the first page of my results returned this Librivox discussion from 2005: viewtopic.php?t=59&start=15
