As you may have noticed, our servers got reset to September 15th, 2016 because of a software failure. Unfortunately, the failure was massive - we have not succeeded to recover any of the data since September 15th...

We are very sorry about this, but sometimes these things happen. We are trying to recover as much of your recordings as possible, but we will still your help - everybody's help with this. Please read the below carefully to see what you can do to help.

Projects catalogued between September 15th and October 14th
(including projects that were started after September 15th and completed, like the weekly poetry for example).

You don't need to do anything. The admins will restore those projects into the database by themselves. Unfortunately this will take time, since most of this needs to be done manually, which is a lot of work. Please be patient, and refrain from contacting admins about such projects for the time being so they can do the work.

For BCs and soloists: If your project has not been restored within, say 3 weeks, then contact your MC.
A list of projects that were completed after September 15th can be found on archive:
https://archive.org/details/librivoxaudio?sort=-date

Projects started before September 15th
(and not yet finished)

We are very sorry, but all files uploaded after September 15, and all changes to the database and the forum (including PL notes) have been lost and cannot be retrieved.

For BCs: If you remember any claims to your project, please enter them again into the MW.
For readers:
* If you have already completed your recording and it received a PL OK, please reupload the file again and mention in your post that it was PL OK. Make sure you upload the correct file to help your DPL!
* If your file has not received any PL notes yet, please also reupload your file and state that there were no PL notes yet.
* If there were PL notes and you remember them - please fix the file accordingly and reupload the fixed file only. Please post which fixes you have done to help your DPL.
* If you have deleted your file, then maybe your DPL has a copy - please post in the thread and ask if she/he could upload it for you. If this is not possible, you will have to rerecord (or relinquish your claim if you don't want that).
* If you've claimed a section and your claim is not showing up in the MW, go ahead and reclaim until October 22nd.
* Please hold off claiming new sections until then to give old claimants the possibility to return.
For DPLs: If you have stored your PL notes, please post them in the thread again. If you don't have them, and you don't remember if a file was PL OK, please also post.

Projects started after September 15th
(and not yet finished)

We are very sorry, but everything done on the server after September 15, including changes to the database and Magic Windows, the forum and uploaded files, have been lost and cannot be retrieved.

For BCs and soloists: You will have to start the project from scratch again, beginning by filling out the template generator... You may put your old MCs initials into the subject line. Your (or an) MC will come along and enter your project into the database. If you remember old claims, please enter them in the MW once you have a new one.
For readers: Same as above:
For DPLs: You may need to sign up again. If you have stored your PL notes, please post them in the thread again. If you don't have them, and you don't remember if a file was PL OK, please also post.

For newbies - 1 minute tests after September 15th

Hi there and welcome!
We're sorry about the server problems, but they don't happen that often, promised! We've only lost data twice in 11 years and we're really sorry your test got caught up in the server problems.

If you have done your 1 minute test after September 15th and
* you did get your [OK] - there's nothing you need to worry about or to reupload. You are still clear to record anything, have fun! You may want to inform your BC that your test got approved, just to make sure you won't be sent over to do another one
* you did not get your [OK] yet - please reupload your latest test file and post in a new thread in the Listeners Wanted forum. Somebody will be around to check your files as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for your help - we can do this!

Again, we are very sorry for the whole mess, and admins are working very hard behind the scenes to make everything new and shiny again. Please be patient, even so, things may take a while.

If you have questions and problems, please post in this thread.
Cheers, Ava.

I have 64kbps files of ALL projects catalogued from 3 Sep as well as the M4B files (Couple missing, but probably only 1%)
How would it be best to upload these projects (The M4B's have the cover art work too)

Thank you so much for thinking about this! But actually I think all the files for the projects that have been catalogued are safe at archive.org, where they also have the 128kb files. So it's good to know you have them backed up as well, but probably we won't need it for now.

One more thing: If you created your forum account between September 15th and October 14th, it has been lost and you'll need to recreate it. I've emailed everyone, I think, but if you can't log in, please email me: librivox dot forum @ gmail dot com.

And a HUGE thank-you to all the people who have already recreated their accounts and sent me friendly, understanding messages -- you all are awesome! I love our community! :9:

List of all projects posted to Archive from 13 September. This can be edited if you want to use it as a "master list" for managing the recreation of the files at Librivox.

I've also noted where I've remembered this in the forum posts themselves.

I have a question about new readers: someone new registered in the last month and I put them into the system. I remember what section they claimed, but will I be able to PM them to let them know what happened?

I suspect that you will need to wait on the PM until the reader has recreated his/her account. See my post above. I don't know what will happen if you try to PM someone whose account doesn't yet exist, but you could try it, I suppose... Nothing will explode :)

Thank you! The admins started a similar list earlier today. We've already started adding progress notes to ours, so we'll keep working with the other list to avoid duplication or conflict of effort.

Does this mean that we are now ok to start posting and uploading again?

Agee,

I'll recreate it for you . . . Just give me a minute.
MaryAnn

Edit - here you go: https://librivox.org/reader/11191

You will need to go to the project threads and re-claim any sections you planned to read. If you can't find the project thread in Readers Wanted, it may be new since Sept 15th, in which case you'll need to wait for the BC to relaunch the project.

I had 15 or 20 chapters that I can reupload. Some of the books don't appear on the book list. Should I wait until they show up again?
Turning it over in your mind will not plough the field.
