( John Greenleaf Whittier was an influential American Quaker poet and ardent advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. He is usually listed as one of the Fireside Poets. Whittier was strongly influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. In this book, John Whittier elaborates the Conflict With Slavery, Politics and Reform.)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of The Inner Life. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "The Inner Life, by John Greenleaf Whittier. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of The Inner Life by John Greenleaf Whittier. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of The Inner Life, by John Greenleaf Whittier. "
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
Example filename innerlife_##_whittier_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. innerlife_01_whittier_128kb.mp3)
Example ID3 V2 tags (just leave those blank!)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
I want to read this book solo. Hence, as per my friend's advice, I have gone and done the needful and generated a code. When I copy the code to this window it appears like html codes. Someone please help!
Appreciate your assistance so that it looks normal on the window unlike the one seen now in the first message.
Get rid of the "Code" tags at the beginning and end, and it should look normal. Those "code" tags cause any formatting codes to not be enacted, but to just print them so that someone can see how something is coded. Make sense?
I'm at my limit for MC projects, so it won't be me.
I took a quick look, and I think you can start recording. Just wait to upload until you get an MC so you know whose folder to send the files to.
One note: In the intro/outro, you may want to say "Section [number]" instead of "Chapter [number]" since these aren't really chapters in the traditional sense. That's totally up to you.
2. we recommend splitting texts into two or more recordings if the text would be longer than one hour of recording. i looked at the text, and it looks like you will have to split some of the essays. do a word count and see how many words they are. 6-7 thousand words are one hour i think. let me know if you need help with that
Carolin, please let me know as a solo job, should I put across here for someone to PL or I should can redo the PL, conclude and then post it. Kindly advise if I am not fulfilling the SOLO role!
you did it all exactly right, only a few small things about the magic window:
1. please fill in the duration (mm:ss) into the notes field. you can delete the word count when you upload the section and replace it with the duration.
2. please change the status from "assigned" to "ready for pl".
3. you will need more than one section for chapter 7. i have added two new sections for you now and named them "part 1" etc. please pick good places where to break the chapter into three parts of roughly equal length. please let me know if you need help with that
When we split the Chapters how will the chapter begin.... the usual intro and close is done for the chapter... for the split chapters how do we go about. Please let me know.
