I was thinking of hopping into this, but I'm unsure about the symbols. See section 19, top of page 2 and bottom of page 3. Is there somewhere to figure out how to voice those?

I was hoping someone with more science knowledge than I could help with such things (I was trying not to assume everyone is as ignorant as I... and so it is proving)

My guess is he just used "any old symbol", as a variation on using letters to define shapes. ♋ is the astrological sign for cancer. I can't find anything about ⨀.
Will keep looking - but if anyone else has any ideas, they'd be welcome!

It's either the sun or the moon, possibly? Edit: it's the sun:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planets_in_astrology#Sun

There were a number of those symbols at the time, also to indicate the chemical elements people had known at the time. Here's a list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbol_%28chemistry%29#Pictographic_symbols

I did not check the text, so I have no idea what to do with them in the instances Tricia mentioned!

Thanks! That led me to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomical_symbols

Which has most of the symbols. 8-) I see he's talking about the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn! And possibly the summer and winter solstices.

I'll take section 19.

It was much easier reading the equations from the PG version. I then PL'd using the Google Doc.

Section 27 will also be up shortly. I did the same thing there (read from PG, PL'd from Google Doc).

Good to know - I did the docs as I thought they would be easier.

In general, they are easier - it's just that the fractions (where the denominator ends) and roots (how far the bar on the square/cube/etc root extends) didn't transfer over well. :)
