And I finished another big chapter. :) This time Ordener meets with a man who is mistakenly guessing what his business with Hans of Iceland is. This starts off a round of confusion which will, a few chapters later, put Ordener in a situation unusual for a man of his position.

Recording time: 25:14 min.

Only one really BIG chapter left, all the remaining will be about 20 minutes or less. What a relief. :9:

And John, I included a nice peasant accent for you to enjoy again, watch out for it in the first half of this chapter. :)

And here is chapter 29 finished, I spent the entire day on this one, but I think it turned out quite good. This is the scene that would take up half the running time of a Hollywood movie. Ordener finally clashes with Hans !

Hope you have fun listening to the fight :) And as always, I had a blast doing Hans

Loved the peasant accent -- and the characterization of Maase. It's good to hear someone cowering again.

You keep going from strength to strength. Only one exceedingly small note:

at 21:07, p. 315 -- the line is "Well, then you do know!" -- you left out the "do"

I wouldn't take the trouble to change it -- but I'm not the perfectionist you are. It's your call.

Thanks John :)

as you already guessed, I re-uploaded the corrected Chapters 28 and 29 for Spot PL.

And I finished another chapter. This one takes a bit the same function as the chapter with Levin's secretaries. Here you see officers of the Munkholm battalion, talking about the latest news and events, to recapitulate the story so far.

Do you remember the officer from the very first chapter, who talked with Spiagudry in the Spladgest ? As a reminder, this is what he said:
"By Saint Beelzebub!" cried the soldier, "it is an officer of my regiment. Let me see; can it be Captain Bollar, — from grief at his uncle's death? Bah! he is the heir. Baron Randmer? He lost his estate at cards yesterday, but he will win it back to-morrow, with his adversary's castle. Can it be Captain Lory, whose dog was drowned, or Paymaster Stunck, whose wife was unfaithful to him? But, really, I don't see why he should blow out his brains for that!"
Well, Victor Hugo did not invent those names in vain, here in this chapter, Captain Bollar, Baron Randmer and Captain Lory will receive a speaking role. I like it that people who have previously been only mentioned, show up much later with a characterization. And I had fun bursting out laughing in this chapter ;)

And just before I leave, I took the resolution to finish another longer chapter. After this one there will be 5 or 6 smaller ones, so that will be nice to start again after the trip.

This time Ordener manages to get into quite a mess again, and yet again, his life is saved by an unlikely small item, which the listeners might already have forgotten about at this point.... it's always good to remember stuff Hugo wrote in previous chapters, because they will show up again later. ;)

Chapter 30 PL OK.

I love all the little touches you put into your readings. Your charm and wit as a reader perfectly matches those of Hugo as the author.

Thanks John !

finally, after a few days of rest, I dared to tackle the next two chapters. It felt strange getting into this story again, and I am quite self-conscious, whether I still "have it in me" to do the voices :? Please be honest, if you feel that these two chapters are in any way different from the others, performance-wise. It felt a bit awkward, starting again.

Recording time: 1:33 min. (this was the smallest chapter of the book, only one page long, good as a starter  )

and another small chapter. Again, we are witnesses to another secret meeting between our two head-scoundrels. This time I think my performance is back to old standards, I probably needed a bit of warming up. Good thing the chapters are so short for the time being. A bit of practice before the final dreaded long chapter :? has to be done.

thanks John. I can't remember doing a chorus of voices :hmm:

And here is another one finished. Our hardy rebels fall into the trap...

Time for some more statistics, I finished over 70% of the pages of the book. Apparently I already read over 9 hours worth. Never thought I could manage that.

Very nicely handled -- a study in contrasts. I enjoyed it muchly.

Only one tiny note:
at 9:32 -- p. 373 -- the text says: "...we have found a friend, noble lady -- one only". "One only," said the great lady...

you read "only one" both times

Hardly a problem really as far as the meaning goes. But, all the same, you wanted everything...

 wow well checked !! I really read this wrongly both times. But indeed, there is probably a singular emphasis on the meaning, if the words are in this more unusual sequence. I decided to change it, it was no big work correcting them. I reuploaded the new file.

and I also finished another smaller interlude chapter. This one explains, why the musketeers knew how to ambush the rebels. After reading the chapter, knowing what we know about Hans' motives, we can but pity the poor colonel, who thinks he has got help, but in reality only leads his own men into a trap ;)
