I just upgraded to an iPhone 6 and the geniuses at Apple separated out the ability to play books into it's own app. Which means it's not in the music app. Which means that many external players (like the one in my truck) won't recognize they exist since they only play music. And the M4B format makes things not-workie.

Argh.

If you're in this pickle and don't want to wear earbuds when you drive (which is not the safest thing and illegal in some places), here's what I've found to work.

First, you convert the books to MP3 with http://www.maniactools.com/soft/m4a-to-mp3-converter/?ref=m4a-home&version=9.2&b=9203, it will ask you if you want to split it into chapters, say no.

If there are multiple files, join them with http://www.maniactools.com/soft/mp3-splitter-joiner/?version=9.1&b=9100 and you're good to go. You can't flip through the chapters but it'll stay paused when you pause it.

And no, I don't have any affiliation with the makers of the software, I just needed something to make it all work!
Why yes there IS a blog about choral singing. Thanks for asking.

An update on this, the Apple music app will NOT remember where you were (5 hours into "Robinson Crusoe"...argh). I've done a lot of digging and finally found an app that is 1) really free, 2) easy to use and 3) understands what "pause" means. Search for oplayer lite and give it a whirl.
