Hi Lilith,

I will listen to these sections today. This book is really great, don't you think?

One tip, when you post sections for PL, please post also on this thread, so that I know that they are there right away!

My best,

Pam

Yes, I like this book very much! Although it is usually ignored as a minor work and Maugham himself didn't seem to like it.
Thanks Pam! I will post on this thread when I have a chapter done. I was worried to seem to be nagging...

Hi Lilith,

No worry about nagging between reader and DPL. I am a great fan of Somerset Maugham and I didn't know about this work.

Excellent reading--you got the satiric tone just right!

A few small corrections that affect meaning:

Chapter 5 at 22:56, I am hearing "hat" instead of "head"

Chapter 6 at 02:35, I am hearing "mime" instead of "maim" (should sound like "mame" rhyming with "tame")
at 23:26, I am hearing "shame" instead of "sham" (should rhyme with "Sam")

All this is routine, PL stuff. If you look at the threads for my solos, "Queen Elizabeth" and "Cardinal Wolsey" you will see me fixing the same sort of little things my DPLs pick up. Just upload the files for a Spot PL when you are ready.

Your volumes are perfect now.

My best,

Pam

P.S.
I am really losing sympathy for Mary! She is so condescending.

Thanks very much Pam! :D

You are a great fan of Maugham too!

I've edited chapter 6. I re-uploaded the file, and re-pasted the link in the MW; is this the way to do it?

I've a question about chapter 5. You gave me the time of the recording. I wonder if you still have the point at which I made the error.

I wish very much to improve my reading and really welcome comments and suggestions!

Yes, that is the way to do it. Usually, I delete the link I am replacing and hit return to make sure the space is a blank. And then I re-upload the file and paste it in.

Hi Lilith,

On Chapter 5: at 06:28 "hat" for "head"

I have nothing much to suggest--you are doing great!

Section 7 is PL OK.

Wonderful reading and great chapter!

My best,

Pam

P.S.
Maugham is never merely satirical. He always seems to get at the essentials.
