The Making of a Bigot by Rose Macaulay (1881 - 1958).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-making-of-a-bigot-by-rose-macaulay/

Readers outside the US: please note Rose Macaulay died in 1958.
“How various is man! How multiplied his experience, his outlook, his conclusions!”—H. Belloc.

“And every single one of them is right.”—R. Kipling.
Written while Macaulay worked in the Propaganda Department of the War Office, and reflecting her own mysticism and skepticism of organized religion, The Making of a Bigot follows young Eddy Oliver from Cambridge University as he meets people whose stronger personalities influence his weaker one, with their persuasive arguments. ( Lynne Thompson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50953
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi!
This sounds right up my alley. If I could kick it off with Section 1 that would be fantastic. You will see from my profile that it has been many years since I last participated. I now live in the US so there shouldn't be any copyright issues with me recording on this project.

Welcome back and thank you. You may want to consider a new one minute test, if you've not already done one, just to make sure everything is still OK, but your choice.

Certainly. Sounds like a good idea. Will likely be Monday when I get the opportunity.

Had a quick listen, and saw you got feedback from Tony. I'll just add a couple of pointers, although they may not help much:

The file came in at 91.1 dB, just a tad over the 91 upper limit (89 is the gold standard, with 87-91 being acceptable). If you haven't already, you can download a free Checker program to check your own volume and other specs. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker

If you run your file through Checker, you will see it says there is a DC Bias of -10. This will need to be fixed. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Questions_and_Answers
Phil has a video on how to fix this using Audacity, but I'm not sure how that compares to your software: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gze0qOPea1E&feature=youtu.be

Similarly, your bit rate is off at 192kbps. It needs to be 128kbps. Phil has a video for that (Audacity again, so I don't know how that translates) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l54FyB3wLpA

If you need guidance specific to your software, I suggest posting in the "Need Advice Forum".

Thank you so much Lynne. I had been having trouble getting checker to work. Thank you for pointing out the DC offset also. A little rusty and out of practice on this end. Got checker working and the issues fixed with the rest.

Thank you also for the welcome Pam :)
Here is the link to chapter 1. If anything at all needs to be altered please let me know. I am worried about the breath sounds, if it is an issue ill happily rerecord or look for assistance with it on a more public part of the forum dedicated to that.
