I am great fan of David Hume, and being also an avid reader in the philosophy of religion, his Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion is among my favorites. I have considered coordinating this project as a dramatic works, because it's a lot like Plato's dialogues, but in the end I've decided it'd be better for me to go solo.

The first reason for this is practical - unlike Plato's dialogues, there's a narrator, Pamphilus, who constantly interjects into the middle of the speeches to tell us that Cleanthes said such and such "with an air of contempt" or something like that. It'd be awkward to have someone speak those lines, but it's often necessary to know what he says. But he does have some long speaking parts as well. So it'd be too confusing to have one person speak Pamphilus's parts half the time, and then the other three people speaking his parts the other half. This is resolved much more easily by just doing it alone.

My other to reasons, to be honest, are purely selfish. I'll have a whole month with nothing to do when this semester ends, and I would like to get it done during that time. Still, I'm giving myself some leeway on the target completion date. The other reason is that I like the work so much, I wanna do it all myself! I want to become intimately acquainted with this work, and I know that reading every paragraph over and over until you get the emphasis just right is a great way to do it.

OK, all done.

In your first post, I've left in the question of th summary, as a reminder we'll still need that, and your filename and tag info.

Can you put your files directly onto my server?

NB - The uploader doesn't seem to work with Safari or IE. Great with Firefox, though.

My recording of the Preface should be up on your server now, on the web uploader. Here is the summary:

In Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, philosopher David Hume examines whether belief in God can be rational. The work takes the form of a debate between three characters: Cleanthes, who argues that the existence and nature of God can be empirically verified; Demea, who argues that God is completely beyond human knowledge; and Philo, a philosophical skeptic widely thought to represent Hume's own beliefs. Much of the debate centers around Cleanthes' presentation of the analogical argument from design. According to this argument, the complexity and beauty of the universe can only be explained by inferring an intelligent designer, in the same way that one would infer a designer if one came across an intricately complicated machine. Philo presents several objections to this argument, with rejoinders by Cleanthes and occasional interjections by Demea. (Summary by Leon Mire)

I was a little bit confused when you said you also need my filename and tag info. It looks like it's already on the post. Am I just misunderstanding, or is there something else I've forgotten to post on here?

Thanks Leon,

I'll set up a folder and put in the listen link.

It was a clumsy sentence, but what I meant was: I've left your filename and tag info (for you to refer to later) rather than deleting them.

I'm sorry! I completely forgot that you asked me to send them straight to your server. I've just gotten into the habit of putting everything on MediaFire. I went ahead and put them on the LibriVox Uploader.
