Ah, a beautiful voice and great delivery! But you should uploan another test, call it test 2 or something, with these corrections
1. It is in stereo, we need it in mono
2. It is in Wav, we need it in mp3 format.

the volume seems fine but I could not check it out because of the format. We aim at 89 dB; your test seemed (I'm not sure) a little bit hot.
So please make another test and put it here again I'll check it out. !! Again, you will be a great voice for LibriVox! :D[/quote]

Thank you Phil! Here is test 2. I apologize for the errors earlier. About the 89 dB, is that the average or max? What is the best way to measure that?

Ok, you definitely fixed those two tech items. Now that it is an mp3 I see the volume is a tad low at 83.6 dB. 89 is the average we aim at, with 3 dB on either side allowed so you would need to increase this by about 4 or 5 dB to get to 89. We use the Checker program (see our WIKI) to check volume and here is a little video about it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkhk0megqHE&feature=youtu.be. But also MP3 Gain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toef8_-qsms) and most of us just estimate based on the size of t the sound wave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o. That is what I do. So .... the easiest thing to do would be to just amplify your file by 4 and resubmit it as test 3. I have a video on that too (surprise!) linked in my signature. Let me know if you need any further help.

Oh, I noticed some 'plosives; places where your breath hit the mic directly causing pops. Just moving the mic to the side a bit helps with that. This is just an observation. :D You are almost there! one more test and you will be recording lots and lots.

Hi Eka and a big welcome to LibriVox  . So sorry to say that I cannot assign that section to you because another reader has asked for it already but there are many things in our Readers Wanted and Launch Pad sections for you to choose from. But let's work on your recording set up in anticipation, ok?

1. Your recording is in stereo, we need it in mono.

2. your volume is low at 72 dB. WE aim at 89 dB (plus or minus about 3). This is the biggest problem and you need to increase the input volume. If you are using Audacity, then move the volume slider way to the right; move closer to the microne too and then listen to your track to hear how it sounds. If there is some other way to increase the volume going into your recording device that should be tried.

3. Your it rate needs to be 128 kbs; it is currently at 150 kbs.

So please make another test, call it test 2 or something with these things fixed and I will check it out ASAP. Don't get discouraged, we all had to go through this fiddly time fixing our recording setup but once it is done you will be having tons of fun. Ask if anything is unclear.

Oh, do you use a USB microphone or a built in one?

Oh thank you so much for your advice about the recording. I am using a plug in microphone and I did notice that I wasn't getting the needed output. I will follow your advice and look into the fairy tales. I love those!

Thanks again,

Thanks. You are getting closer and closer! Still two things to work on though:

1. volume, it is indeed much louder at 79.6 dB but still about 7 dB short of where we would like it. You must have increased the inmput volume, but did you amplify the file using your software? That should make it plenty loud enough.

2. Your bit rate is still slightly out of whack at 126 kbs variable; we need 128 kbs constant.

everything else, including your lovely voice, is fine. You read very nicely with great expression so please be patient with fixing these little things and you will be recording lots of stuff very soon. Your next test should be test3 or something like that. Hang in there!!! Our wiki has information of fixing bit rate and I have a video on setting your tech specs in audacity (if that is what you are using). :D

I amplified the sound (hopefully correctly) and set it at 128 constant. Thanks again for you feedback. I look forward to reading :)

 Yes you did a good job and you are now cleared to record lots and lots. Note that you amplified a bit too much (91.8dB) and next time try to do it a tad less but that is a suggestion since it is within our margin of 86-92 dB. Here is a little video about using your eyes to get a good volume http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o And the checker program is great too.
