Rough Justice by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1835 - 1915).
Who murdered Lisa Rainer? Is it her former lover who went to seek fortune in Africa and fell in love with another on the way back? Were there any blood motives? Detective John Thorne would have to discover. Inspired by a true story, this novel is a page turner. Yet this is not only a detective novel. It deals with class, gender, propriety and family. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

AFTER recording Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide. Save files as

Hello,
due to an accessability probelm with the etext (even in word form), could one of you enter the names and number of pages of each chapter to the mw so we can get going? Thanks in advance,
Stav.
Love gothic novels? Try Children Of The Abbey. Like surprising mysteries? Try The Amathist Cross. Looking for an easy read? Try Harriet's Choice.
Can I have Section 1 "How Should I Greet Thee?"
I copied and pasted the text into Word 2010. Does anyone know how to shift the text
to have more words per line than the original? Nothing I find on the internet works. I
tried what they said about margins but it had no effect. Technology often fails to respond
to my demands.

Hi Marina47,
section 1 is all yours. I also have the text in word. But there are no clear chapter devisions, so I cannot exactly do the wordcountings. That's the point. BUt thanks for your consern.

Get TextWrangler (free)
Paste the entire text of your chapter into text wrangler
select "text" from menu
select "remove line breaks"
cut your entire text from TextWrangler and paste it into your word doc.
Works well for me.
Richard

Hi Todd,
Here's my link for section 1. I proofread this myself so possibly there won't be edits needed but I'm not happy
with the reverb; I think it's too much. I saved a preset from my last work and toned it down but still...If anyone
has a good speaking reverb preset for Audacity I would be glad to re-issue it, along with any needed edits of course.
