EDIT: This would be my first recording, for the catalogue I'll go by my name, Alina George. I will be doing a 1-minute test when I get home from work today. (Where should I post that when done?)
Hi Alina and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, as you said, you need to do that little 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test How to Upload your 1 minute test

(You may post the link to your test in this forum and I will see it much more quickly; this means make a 'reply' in this project thread and put the link here.)

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums It will explain a lot of our jargon and procedures.

I will be waiting for your test tonight or tomorrow. Ask if anything at all is unclear or befuddling; we are a friendly bunch here.

Ah, a beautiful voice and great delivery! But you should uploan another test, call it test 2 or something, with these corrections
1. It is in stereo, we need it in mono
2. It is in Wav, we need it in mp3 format.

the volume seems fine but I could not check it out because of the format. We aim at 89 dB; your test seemed (I'm not sure) a little bit hot.
So please make another test and put it here again I'll check it out. !! Again, you will be a great voice for LibriVox! :D

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed that that section has already been assigned to someone else. let's continue working with your recording set up to get it right, and find something else fun to read in another project, OK?

H Mohan and a big welcome to LivriVox! I have assigned that story to you but let's get your recording set up straight first. Please make another ttest, call it test 2 or something like that with these changes in your setup:

1) Your test is in stereo, we need it in mono (one track)
2) Your bit rate is 177 kbs, we need it in 128 kbs
3) There is a LOT of hiss and background noise that detracts from your great voice, please record in a quiet place without fans and other things that the microphone will pick up. Switching to a USB microphone will help a lot. also move farther away from the computer if possible because of the fans in it.
Then you may want to do some noise reduction in Audacity. But please reduce the background noise.

If you have any questions let me know. There are some videos on how to do noise reduction linked in my signature. Welcome again and your voice is great!.

Thanks a lot for the valuable feedback

I have now set the track to Mono, Bit Rate of 128 Kbps and in mp3 format.

Please do let me know if it was better and the areas to improve

Yes, you are getting there Mohan. The technical parts are all correct now but there is still a tremendous amount of noise in your recording. Listen to it yourself and you will see that the rumble and noise almost overwhelm what you are saying. There is also an 'echo' effect like you are recording in a room where the sound bounces around a lot. Can you tell me more about the environment in which you record and what kind of equipment you are using? As a test I applied 20 dB of noise reduction to this track and it helped make it more understandable. Probably the cause of this is the microphone and/or the environment so let's work on those, eh? Don't worry, once you get over this set up stage you will be recording very soon so be patient and work with me. :D
