Stories from the Arabian Nights by Laurence Housman (1865 - 1959).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/stories-from-the-arabian-nights-by-laurence-housman/

NOTE: The author died in 1959 and is not PD in the UK, Europe, or Australia. Readers from other areas should check out their local laws.

Scheherazadè, the heroine of the Thousand and one Nights, ranks among the great story-tellers of the world but because she wanted to stave off her death, she told a great number of them. It is only to be expected that a few are not of the best quality. The six stories chosen here to be retold by Laurence Housman however, are the cream of the crop, the very best to be had among all of them. They are beautifully written and deserve to be 'told' by readers who enjoy telling stories. ( Phil chenevert)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/51432
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Phil
May I claim Section 2?
Just noticed that Housman died in 1959 and I live in the UK.
Is there still a copyright problem?

Sorry Angela, according to my sources, his writings are not PD in the UK. At least not yet. :(

Hello Phil,

I am working on getting my 1 min. test checked out, but I love these short stories, with in a story... and I would really like to read The Story of the Princess of Deryabar. I live in the US, and don't think there is a PD problem.

Thanks,
Tricia

Hi Tricia. If you live in the US then there is no problem at all. I will assign that story to you while waiting for your 1 minute test clearance. (Please let me know when it gets the OK). Also, what catalog name do you want? Most of us use our real names but it is up to you. Ask if anything at all is befuddling. Image

Phil, I live in Florida and last I checked it was only Key West that was trying to break away from the US (haha)
Tricia Ream would be great for a catalog name, thank you for asking and for letting me know the norm. :D
And thank you, I might need to take you up on your offer of help. :hmm:

Tricia. Glad you have the official OK. As for pronunciation, we mostly use Google or our own ideas unless they are important names, inwhich case we ask for help in the project thread. Regarding editing and stuff, I have a bunch of videos linked my signature that might help.
