Selected Letters of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal by Saint Jane Frances de Chantal (1572 - 1641).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:https://librivox.org/selected-letters-of-saint-jane-frances-de-chantal-by-saint-jane-frances-de-chantal/

Saint Jane Frances de Chantal (1572 – 1641) is a Roman Catholic Saint, who founded The Congregation of the Visitation after the death of her husband. St. Francis de Sales was her Spiritual Director and a close friend. After St. Francis de Dales died, St. Vincent de Paul became her spiritual director.

These letters, which date from a range of 1611-1641, were written to her saintly spirtual directors, her children and relatives, other nuns and religous, as well many others. ( Maria Therese)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50592
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

A few notes:
  • These are for the most part very short letters. Some are longer, but most range in the word count of hundreds, not thousands. The longest one I saw was a tad over 3000 words - but this is an exception. I chose not to combine them intentionally even though they are short.

One thing I would appreciate. If you claim a letter that has one or more following immediately after it titled "To the Same", I would like it if all the sections like that are claimed by the same reader. For example, Letter #1 is "To St. Francis de Sales". Letter #2 is also to him titled "To the Same". If these could be claimed together for consistency, that would be great - but not obligatory!

Please note that the intro/outro wording has been changed to Letter #, not Chapter #.

    PLEASE READ ALL THE FOOTNOTES!!!!
If you have not read footnotes before, it should be done in this manner.

Say "Footnote" (read footnote) then say "End footnote" (then go back to reading the text where you stopped.)

This should be done where the footnote is indicated or somewhere nearby that is appropriate (i.e. don't read a footnote in the middle of a letter title - there are some like this - wait till the title is read :-)

I am going to try to gradually hyperlink all the texts in the MW but I wanted to get the project up since there are so many and it will take awhiel - they are hyperlinked in the PG text and should be easy to find by number.

Hello! I would love to give some of these a try! May I please claim sections 1 and 2 to begin with?

Thank you so much!

(sorry, I edited this because I started to claim the Preface, then realized there are a whole lot of French words in there I'm not sure I can pronounce! But I think I can handle the letters. :) )

Also - would the "Judgment of St. Francis de Sales" that precedes it be considered part of Section 1? I don't mind reading it, just wanted to verify if it's OK to consider it all in one. :-)

Hi,
Letters 1 & 2 are all yours! Thanks so much!

If you would like to read the "Judgment of St. Francis de Sales" in the same section as Letter #1, that would be fine with me! I originally put it with the prefaces, but looking at it it might be a good idea to put it with the first letter - and since nothing has been recorded yet, this is the time to switch it if we want! Let me know what you think/would like to do ~ it doesn't matter to me either way!

Great! I'll work on it this afternoon. Worst case scenario, if it doesn't sound right, we can just redo it later. :-)

Please don't hesitate to let me know if anything needs to be changed/redone. I won't claim any more till I'm sure these are ok. Thanks! :-)

Thank you, Christine ~ they are lovely to listen to!

Section 1 is PL OK!

Section 2 - a few little very minor things.

If you could say in the intro "Letter" instead of "section" that would be great! (I did change it in the first post, but it is very easy to miss things like that when you get used to saying the same thing over many projects! :D )

Please leave section 1 as it is, I like that you said "section" for that one, as it is not just a letter. But if you could change it in section 2, I would appreciate it!

The only other thing to point out is when there is a footnote, if you could say "End of Footnote" after reading it - before going back to the recording, that would be great! If you would like to fix that in section 2, that would be great, but don't feel obliged as it is a very minor issue!

Feel free to claim as many more as you would like!

Hi Maria -

No problem!

I have rerecorded section - ahem, Letter! :D - 2, and uploaded the revised file: (2m/22.121s, 2.27MB):

https://librivox.org/uploads/m8b1/selectedletters_02_chantal.mp3

I'll look through the book tomorrow and claim some more sections. My French is limited so I will have to be careful! :?

Thanks for the feedback!
