4 Stories by Louisia May Alcott (1832 - 1888).

These stories are now in our catalog at https://librivox.org/4-stories-by-louisa-may-alcott-by-louisa-may-alcott/
Here are four delightful short stories written by the famous author specifically for girls. As she says in the tiny preface
"These stories were written for my own amusement during a period of enforced seclusion. The flowers which were my solace and pleasure suggested titles for the tales and gave an interest to the work. If my girls find a little beauty or sunshine in these common blossoms, their old friend will not have made her Garland in vain. L.M. ALCOTT."
The stories are part of the collection known as A Garland For Girls and include An Ivy Spray & Ladies Slippers; Pansies; Water-Lillies and Mountain-Laurel & Maiden-Hair. They are all between 40 minutes and 55 minutes finished audio so they are not short but all four are typical stories from the talented pen of Miss Alcott. ( Phil chenevert and the author)

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5830
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
      Save files as
      128 kbps MP3

Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
      Artist: Louisa May Alcott
      Title: ## - [Section title]
Album: 4 Stories by Louisia May Alcott

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

Hi Asiox and welcome to LibriVox. I have listened to your test and commented in that thread. From what I can hear you have a very nice voice but it is so low it is hard to be sure. Follow those instructions and when you get the OK, I will gladly assign one of these to you. However I strongly suggest you try a shorter recording for your very first one, perhaps a poem or something because it is best to learn the ropes of editing and uploading with something shorter. But it is your choice of course! Image

Hi, question - There is a chapter under 'MOUNTAIN-LAUREL AND MAIDEN-HAIR' , called just 'MOUNTAIN-LAUREL'.
Is it part of Section 4 or not included in this group of reading ?

I would like to read 'MOUNTAIN-LAUREL' if it's split out, if it's included in Section 4, then can you sign me up for the whole thing?

Hi DIana. The poem (a beautiful one) is part of the story and flows from it as I read it. So to answer your question, yep, it is included in section four. And thanks, you have it. :D

Ok Phil, will do.
The second part is 5,915 words.
Please change the word count to 10,478 for Section 4.

Wow! I missed that. Do you think that is too much? What do you think about making them part 1 and part 2? I am very open to making the Poem story a seperate section. Easy to do.

Actually, that would be great. I'll do part 2, starting with the Mountain-Laurel heading with the poem.
thank you 8-)

Let me know how I should to the Intro and ending. will it be Section 5 or Section 4 part 2?

It will be Section 5. the title will be as shown in the revised Magic Window, Part 2. When in the intro you come to the [story name] say "MOUNTAIN-LAUREL AND MAIDEN-HAIR part 2 - Maiden Hair". Thanks for asking, this makes more sense.

Hi! I'd love to claim "2 Pansies" if no one else has asked for it.
FYI I'm listed as "Christine Lehman" in the catalog - this would be my second project.
THANKS! :-)
