What think You I take my Pen in Hand?
by Walt Whitman

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible!

This week's poem can be found at: http://www.bartleby.com/142/60.html

Begin by reading the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
What think You I take my Pen in Hand? by Walt Whitman, read for LibriVox.org by [your name]
Adding, if you wish, date, location, or your personal url.

Then the poem:

WHAT think you I take my pen in hand to record?
The battle-ship, perfect-model’d, majestic, that I saw pass the offing to-day under full sail?
The splendors of the past day? Or the splendor of the night that envelopes me?
Or the vaunted glory and growth of the great city spread around me?—No;
But I record of two simple men I saw to-day, on the pier, in the midst of the crowd, parting the parting of dear friends;
The one to remain hung on the other’s neck, and passionately kiss’d him,
While the one to depart, tightly prest the one to remain in his arms.
At the End say:

End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Please leave a few seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:

File name - all in lowercase: what_think_you_whitman_[your initials].mp3

ID-3 tags:
Title: What think you I take my pen in hand? - Read by [YOUR INITIALS]
Artist: Walt Whitman
Album: LibriVox Weekly Poetry
Comments: (optional) Recorded by [your name]

Still trying to get the hang of reading for LibriVox. Nonetheless, thoroughly enjoyed the poem.

It's my first recording. I'd like to thank all the people who made this thrilling experience possible, starting with Homer...

Sorry, I know my computer had a bit of noise during the recording. I suppose I could have edited it out or rerecorded it or something, but, well, I didn't. I quite liked the poem and wanted to give this whole thing a whirl, so it's please take it as a rough draft.

Here goes.

Thanks, Travis. Sounds good. Only one change to your ID3 tags... full name, if you choose to add it, goes in the comments. The title just includes initials.

Shall I use the name and url in your sig for the catalogue, or would you like to be listed differently?

As you say, there's a bit of white noise in the recording, but I didn't find it disturbing or distracting. It's up to you if you want to re-record or do any further editing on it. :)

For the future, please note that filenames should be entirely in lower case (including initials).

It may not matter, but I need to put in something. Some people choose to be listed by their username, others by their real name, the choice is yours.
