The Vicar's Daughter by George MacDonald (1824 - 1905).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-vicars-daughter-by-george-macdonald/
This is the third book of the 'Marshmallow' trilogy. It is a fictional autobiography written by Ethelwyn Percivale, or 'Wynnie'. Her father is a clergyman, Mr. Walton, who's history has already been told in "A Quiet Neighborhood" the first of the three books. Wynnie has a happy childhood and falls in love with a struggling artist. It is about Wynnie and her family, and her little circle of old and new friends. We learn much about the poor of society of that time. This book is set in the real, every-day world and our narrator is serious when she calls her life ''quiet and ordinary''. Though there are some exciting incidents, visits made, and long conversations about God. This book is a delightful read.

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/9471
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    6. BEFORE recording: Please check the Recording Notes: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

      Set your recording software to:
      Channels: 1 (Mono)
      Bit Rate: 128 kbps
      Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
    7. DURING recording:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
      START of recording (Intro)
      • "Chapter [number] of The Vicar's Daughter. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
      • If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
      • Say:
"The Vicar's Daughter, by George MacDonald. [Chapter]"

      END of recording
      • At the end of the section, say:
        "End of [Chapter]"
      • If you wish, say:

      • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Vicar's Daughter, by George MacDonald. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.

Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
    8. AFTER recording
      Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
      Save files as
      128 kbps MP3
      vicarsdaughter_##_macdonald_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. vicarsdaughter_01_macdonald_128kb.mp3)

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
        Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: TriciaG
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

I'll MC.

What is the second book in the trilogy? I can add links to each of them from the others, to make it easier for listeners to find them, such as here: https://librivox.org/julia-ried-by-isabella-alden/

EDIT: Set up. Should we remove the ID tag information?
School fiction: David Blaize
Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart
Humor: My Lady Nicotine

Hello,
I just joined LibriVox, I'd like to try reading the introductory chapter if that's okay. It's fine if I can't do a British accent right?

Hi Cat92 and welcome to LibriVox!

I would be very happy to have you read the introduction :D No accents are necessary, just have fun!
I see you have done a 1-min test and it has been oked, that is a great start! Also what name would you like to have for the catalog? it can be your real name, your forum name or whatever you want, and would you like to link to a web-sight?

Thanks! I'm super excited about trying this. I had no idea I was such a perfectionist (I've already start recording).

I'm planning to use my forum name for everything. :D

OK!
If you have any questions just ask :D
I should probably be more of a perfectionist when recording, but I do enjoy it a lot as well.

Hi fiddlesticks,
I left you a PM, I had hit the wrong link and couldn't post my message.

I'll be glad to DPL this if you still need one.

Hi, I'd like to do chapters 4 and 5, if I may? I'm new here too; I haven't yet recorded my 1 min test, but have downloaded Audacity just today, so I will do the test in the next day or so. Kind regards, Sarah.

Hello, and welcome to LibriVox sarahback! Great to hear you are downloading Audacity, good luck on your 1-min test. It is just to make sure all your technical settings are correct, so make sure it is OKed before you record anything else.

If you have any questions or problems just ask, there are lots of helpful people around and many links which help, like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnxpcbnEjoQ&feature=youtu.be

Also, how would you like to be credited in the catalog?

Hello!

I'm new to Librivox and I would like to read Chapter 3 My Wedding. I would like to appear as Lili Woodlight. Thanks so much!

Oh, and I haven't done my one-minute test because my voice is currently gone from being sick :/ but as soon as I'm better I will complete that :)
