Oliver Twist (Dramatic Reading) by Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870).

Quote:
When orphaned Oliver Twist asks for more food, the workhouse board are horrified and immediately pack him off to work for an undertaker, who treats him badly. Oliver runs away and finds himself in the streets of London, where he meets the Artful Dodger and is lured into a gang of young pickpockets, led by the evil Fagin. Even amidst his horrible surroundings, Oliver escapes and finds his way into a loving home. But Fagin's gang are determined to steal him back to their life of crime, coming closer and closer . . . This dramatic reading of the classic Dickens novel is filled with colourful characters and is sure to delight young and old. (Temporary summary by Rachel)

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline. I can, however, be flexible with very big parts.

    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you would like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording! Another helpful link is Dramatic Readings and Plays - some of the information is out of date, but most of it will be really helpful to guide you through your first dramatic work. If you have any questions, please post here! :)
    4. Where do I find the text? Please read from the Google Docs linked in the Magic Window. Source text (to be PL'ed against): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/730
    5. Please claim roles (the names in the second column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Channels: 1 (Mono)
      Bit Rate: 128 kbps
      Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz

      Submit one file per chapter.
    7. Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
      [Role], read by [your name].

If you are reading narration, please read the Librivox disclaimer (in the Google Docs) at the beginning of each chapter.

Please leave 3-5 seconds of space between lines, this makes editing much easier! :)

Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

Adele and I will PL parts, edit, and PL each other's edited chapters. Kristin is narrating, I am reading Oliver, Adele is reading Nancy, and my dad is reading Fagin. All other parts are open, and there sure are a lot of them! :D

Accents are not required unless you are comfortable doing one - I probably won't be, so no pressure! :)
There are many small parts, so feel free to claim a bunch of those as long as they don't conflict too much.
Casting is gender correct for now, except for young boys who may be played by girls if they can sound boyish.

And here is the cast list, with short role descriptions, along with which chapters they appear in. I'll add claims here until we get a MW.

Thank you!

Could I please read the Artful Dodger? (If you think I sound boyish enough?)
Thank you!

If you you wouldn't mind a girl for a young boy, I'd like to do Charley Bates, if not then I'd like Rose Maylie

I think this link should work - if it doesn't let me know and I'll see if I can find the right one  . Thanks for reading Nancy!

In Chapter 40, the line: said the earnest girl, folding her hands as the tears coursed down her face is colored for Rose Maylie instead of the narrator. :D

Fixed! Dickens has an annoying habit of putting comments or extra dialogue tags in the middle of his characters' speeches. They are extremely easy to miss!

I'll take Mrs Maylie, I think. I can't remember this book very well  and I think this one of the few roles my voice is suited to. Dickens didn't write many middle-aged women!

EDIT: In my "male voice" incarnation, can I also please have the Public House Owner? I like doing the occasional "drunk" on LV since I can't drink at all in real life!
