Dramatic Readings of Bible passages

Some reason I decided to try to write fiction. And it sucked me far away from LibriVox into the world of writing, editing and blogging.

Sorry about that. I've been rather busy and my other proof listener doesn't seem to have time either. I just did it though and it's PL okay. I liked it. One note for the future though. In a dramatic, unless you are reading narration, you don't need to read the disclaimer.

I'm happy to do some PL and tech checks for you if you don't mind a new person.

What is a 'spot' PL?

I'll start now with sections 197, 179, 144, 140, 134

Bria will need to give you the OK but I'll answer your question
Spot checking just means checking that the change/s have been made and are ok - no need to re PL the whole file. Please always listen to the file in the MW - that is the file that will be catalogued . All second uploads should have the same filename and this makes the uploader add a date stamp to the old file.

Thanks.

For spot checking, is this something the original PLer does? If not, where do I find the required changes listed?

Thank you for offering.
I ought to do the spot checking. I can find time.

It seems that you haven't done any recording before. You'll need to do a one minute test and decide what name would you like to use in the catalogue.

Bria, ok I’ll start posting.

As it’s the bible and KJV, I’m assuming you want this near word perfect. Please let me know if my notes are too strict for you.

I’m only doing PL for now, not recording as I can’t find a quiet enough space. I want to develop some listening skills though so feedback is welcome and I’m happy to help out here for a while.

PL notes for ZamesCurran

96 - Narrator, Samson

Tech specs & volume - good.

I think the number in filename should be 11, the story number.

A few distracting sounds at:

0.53 & 4.29 - a couple of plosives. In audacity, if you zoom right in you can reduce amplification on the spike.

14.31 & 14.43 - 2 loud clicks to delete just prior to speeches beginning "And it came to pass"/"and he made them sport"

15.13 - there's an odd jump in sound between "middle pillars", a bit distracting

15.58 - hiss/blip to delete at end of line "20 years"

Text amendments

0.57 - "men of Judah" - I hear Judea
1.53 - "And God hearkened to the voice of" - You say his voice to
2.47 - missing word: "For Manoah knew not"
3.25 - "angel of the Lord did no more appear" - You say did not
3.32 - "Then Manoah knew" - I hear And
3.46 - "And the woman bare a son" - I hear bore
4.32 - missing word: "knew not that it was of the Lord"
6.17 - stumble, unclear: "And Sampson's wife wept"
6.56 - stumble: "and he went down" - I hear were
9.28 - "that was burnt with fire" - I hear hadn't
10.20 - "which is in Lehi" - I hear Levi
11.17 - missing word: "And it came to pass afterwards"
11.23 & 13.21 - "the Lords of the Philistines came up unto her" - You say upon
11.43 - repeated word to cut: "brought up to her .. her"
13.50 - stumble, unclear: "the Lord was departed from him"
14.17 - "unto Dagon their God" - You say unto the Dagon
14.48 - stumble, unclear: "unto the lad"
15.34 - "that were therein" - I hear within
15.38 - "So the dead" - I hear To

You have a lovely clear speaking voice to PL!

PL notes for RoboticLobsters

179 - Elisha, 17

Tech
- End of file need 5 seconds silence.
- Volume is too low. According to Librivox Checker program, should be about 89 dB (86-92 acceptable) and currently is 78.6 dB.
- suggested fix: in audacity, amplify a little then check for background noise and apply noise reduction if necessary. There's a good short video instruction here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9NuSuWYaWg&feature=youtu.be

140 - Ahimelech, 14

Tech
- volume is too low again at 79.5 db
- end of file needs 5 seconds silence

Text amendments
0.04 - missing word: "and no man with thee"
0.14 - missing words: "if the young men have kept themselves"
0.33 - "Here I am, my Lord" - You say I am here
0.40 - missing word: "which is the king's"
0.43 - missing word: "and goeth at thy bidding"
0.47 - "to enquire of God" - You say the Lord
0.52 - stumble, a bit distracting: "anything"
0.54 - "nor to all the house of my father" - I hear health

A possible fix for missing words: check your mic or recording software isn't set to 'voice-activated' as that can clip the first sounds immediately after a pause.

PL notes for AdeledePignerolles

144 - David's men, 14

Tech
- Volume ok according to Checker but on the low end at 86.4 dB.
- There's a background noise, a low squeaking, fairly constant, sounds mechanical.
- suggested fix: in audacity, amplify a little then apply noise reduction to try remove the squeaking background noise. There's a good short video instruction here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9NuSuWYaWg&feature=youtu.be

Text is all good.

127 - Eliab

Tech
- Volume is too low accrding to Checker at 83.5 dB, desired range is 86-92, pref around 89.
- distracting background buzz starts at around 9s and continues to the end.

Text is all good.

112 - elders

Tech
- Volume is too low again according to Checker at 84.2 dB
- distracting background buzz over much of it, starting at 24s. Is there some interference?

Text is all good.
