Criminal investigation: a Practical Handbook for Magistrates, Police Officers and Lawyers, Volume 2 by Hans Gross (1847 - 1915). Translated by John Adam (1849 - 1914) and and John Collyer Adam (1879-?)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/criminal-investigation-volume-2-by-hans-gross/
Reputedly inspired by the Sherlock Holmes stories, Austrian criminal jurist and an examining magistrate Hans Gross wrote the first handbook on criminal investigation. This treatise covers everything from the qualities of a good investigating officer and how to utilize various experts, to tactics employed by criminals, how to analyze footprints and blood stains, and ways that criminals perpetrate crimes. Some of the remarks relate directly to India, such as disguising one's caste.
Volume 2 (of 3) consists of Parts 2 and 3 of the 4 parts in the work. - Summary by TriciaG
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/criminalinvestig00grosuoft
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: SPECIAL: standard, plus make sure readers record the right portion of text.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I would love to do the Superstitions sections (11, 12, & 13)! I really enjoyed working on the first volume of this series. :D

Thank you!

I went to my Criminal Investigation MW bookmark and went down to section 14. It was already submitted!

Then I realized this is volume 2, and that was volume 1.

Bev - I went to PL your section, but it doesn't appear to be in my uploader folder. I wonder if I accidentally deleted it when I removed the volume 1 files. Would you please upload it again?

I'm new, but have some experience with recording.

I'd like to record the 8, 9, and 10 sections (gypsy, or gipsy).

I'll put you in. :)

How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a personal web site or blog, if you have one. CLICK HERE for an example of what I'm talking about. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)
