Hi there, I'm an occasional volunteer, an avid listener, and also a Masters of Library and Information Science student. I'm working on a class assignment that involves exploring and evaluating a digital library. I chose to write about LibriVox (because it's awesome!), and I was wondering if anyone can give me any information about the software/system that you use to run your catalog. Any technical details you can share would be very helpful!
I hope I've chosen the right part of the forum for this - if I'm in the wrong spot, just let me know.
Thanks,
Zoe
Question about Librivox Catalog System
This may not be very helpful, but it's all that I know. The site is a combination of WordPress and a custom database-driven catalogue built on CodeIgniter, which is an open-source PHP framework. It was designed specifically for LibriVox in 2013 with the help of a grant from the Mellon Foundation.

One version of the software is here: https://github.com/LibriVox/librivox-public ... though I'm pretty sure that's not the final one. Not sure if the PHP code is any help, but perhaps you can get something from the DB schema: https://github.com/LibriVox/librivox-public/blob/master/schema/librivox_catalog_new.sql
(I'm not an admin so can't give you any behind-the-scenes info, though I'm putting the finishing touches on an alternate catalog so I've learned a fair bit about the data.)

My advice is to make this catalog on your machine. You just need to make http server run.
Then you'll learn lots about LibriVox.
Enjoy.

Ruth, Scott, and Masa,
Thank you so much! This will be a great help. It's fascinating to explore, even if I didn't have a paper to write. The stats alone are very interesting - how this community has grown in 10 years! My technical skills are pretty limited, so I would never have known where to start without your help.
I knew I could count on LibriVoxers to give me a hand.
Cheers,
Zoe

P.S. I will give credit for any info I get from the resources you've offered based on your LibriVox info, but if you would like to be credited by a name that isn't shown here or if you'd rather I didn't identify you at all, please let me know in a reply here. Probably the only person who will ever read this is my professor, but it's still important to cite diligently.

Just bear in mind , the LibriVox.org catalogue is the only official one - people are free to make apps, other platforms, other media and even other catalogues but they may be wonderful or awful , true or false, better or worse.

My links point to the official LibriVox software. I have nothing to do with it, so don't credit me!suddenity wrote:P.S. I will give credit for any info I get from the resources you've offered based on your LibriVox info
