When I record these lines, does it matter how long the pauses are in between parts? How do you crop and link them together in the final version?

The guidelines for pauses are 3-5 sec., that would be nice, but if you have already recorded, I could handle longer or shorter pauses too.
I just cut and paste, sometimes adjusting volume, nothing fancy.
