smijen wrote:PL notes for Trophies, Buckskin, and Rawhide (section 23 / chapter 19):
-filename should be campingandwoodcraft_23_kephart_128kb.mp3
-intro should be "Section 23 of The Book of Camping and Woodcraft: A guide for those who travel in the wilderness. [LV disclaimer.] The Book of Camping and Woodcraft: A guide for those who travel in the wilderness, by Horace Kephart. Chapter 19. Trophies, Buckskin, and Rawhide."
-Outro should be "End of section 23."
-there needs to be 10 seconds of silence at the end of the file
-the volume is about 81dB and our standard is about 89dB. You can amplify in Audacity (check the wiki for instructions if you need help).
-there is quite a lot of background noise. I'd suggest giving it a light noise-clean (again, check the wiki if you need instructions).
Intro and outro are fine now, but still need 10 sec silence at end, file name fix, and (suggested) noise clean. The volume is actually more of a problem now because the intro and outro are considerably louder than the rest, so you won't be able to do a straight amplify in Audacity. You'll have to select 00:30 to 31:30 and amplify only that portion.

Fixing chapter 13 now -- I found a LOT more errors/repeats than the PL pointed out - maybe zie was being kind. So the timing will be significantly different. Again, sorry for the delay, this book is definitely quite fun.

I don't remember now, but maybe the others didn't change the meaning, so I didn't note them. Anyway, this means I will have to re-PL the whole file. I don't mind - I want the reader to be happy with it - but on other projects just be aware that some PL'ers might be annoyed at having to PL the same file twice.

These were big things - words repeated, not just tightening up pacing. Sorry.

Hi Sarah and April --

Thanks to you both.

One more chapter, which seems to be underway, and we are finished! :)

Cheers

Gail

PS. I can sympathise about the cold -- just came down with a real killer 2 days ago, but my first for the winter. Get well soon, April.

Hi All -

Just letting you know that I am going to orphan Section 15 "Pests of the Woods" and plan to read it myself.

It should be done in about a week.

Cheers

Hi --

Section 15 is ready for PL, please. I really enjoyed this section and think that it would be a really good thing for parents to read to their children when they are at the ages when creepy-crawlies are enticing. I would have LOVED it when I was a kid, although my Mom was so not into creepy-crawlies. Also, Horace brings in some great bits of humour. A good one to look out for is his preferred method of ridding a tent of mosquitos.

This is our last chapter read, so we are indeed almost finished.

Please let me know of any edits or other adjustments that are needed. I had a fitful time editing this - something corrupted the file and I had to do all sorts of things to get it finished. If you find any corrupted areas let me know. The corruption happened from about 24 minutes in, and I checked the few minutes before that and all seemed OK - but I haven't gone all the way back to listen to the front end.

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/campingandwoodcraft_15_kephart_128kb.mp3

Duration 31:28.99, dB = 89.3.

I'll PM AprilWalters and ask if she can please see to those last edits - and maybe we will be good to go!

Look forward to any comments

Thanks for PLing.
