The Men Who Found America by Frederick Hutchinson ( - 0).
This project is now complete! To listen to all the files, please find it in our catalog: https://librivox.org/the-men-who-found-america-by-frederick-winthrop-hutchinson/
This Book is About the Men Who Found America and how it started ( Elijah)
  • Special thanks to Maggie Travers, and DrPGould for partially PLing this project
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/menwhofoundameri00hutc
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

    • Say:
"The Men Who Found America, by Frederick Hutchinson. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Men Who Found America by Frederick Hutchinson. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Men Who Found America, by Frederick Hutchinson. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
  • Example filename menwhofoundamerica_##_hutchinson.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. menwhofoundamerica_01_hutchinson.mp3)

youre all set!

there is only one thing: i will force you to use this source: https://archive.org/details/menwhofoundameri00hutc

with the text source you linked to, i couldnt be sure which edition it was and whether or not the site owners had made any changes. this scan is 100% sure from 1909 and thus pd :) -- plus it has all the pretty illustrations!

Great job getting the first section done!

Just a few techinical things:

1.) I think the file is supposed to be saved menwhofoundamerica_00_hutchinson.mp3
I cannot get it to load to my checker as a recognized mp3 file to check the specs on it.

2.) According to the MW, the intro should read "Preface of The Men Who Found America. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"

"Recording by Elijah Fisher"

"The Men Who Found America, by Frederick Hutchinson. Preface"

and then, for the following chapters, can use the shortened intro in the MW.

the technical settings are fine, i ran it through the checker for you maggie :)

elijah, please do look into the proper way of how to name a file, and of how to read the intro again. you really need to be perfectly familiar with both for the projects in which you are bc.
