Le Mort d'Arthur Volume 1, by Sir Thomas Malory

Le Morte d'Arthur (spelled Le Morte Darthur in the first printing and also in some modern editions, Middle French for la mort d'Arthur, "the death of Arthur") is Sir Thomas Malory's compilation of some French and English Arthurian romances. The book contains some of Malory's own original material (the Gareth story) and retells the older stories in light of Malory's own views and interpretations. First published in 1485 by William Caxton, Le Morte d'Arthur is perhaps the best-known work of English-language Arthurian literature today. Many modern Arthurian writers have used Malory as their source, including T. H. White for his popular The Once and Future King. (Wikipedia)

1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
   To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.

3. Is there a deadline?
   Target completion date of this project: 01 December 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.

7. DURING recording:
   Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:

   Need noise-cleaning?
   Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some background noise, you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity (Mac/Win) has much improved noise-cleaning. See this thread for more information.

In general, I think if it's in the Gutenberg version, we should read it --- and I think it adds some interesting information.

I agree with Chris - I always like reading the intros - so I've added them in and have signed myself up for it! Hope that's ok.

I've created 46 sections, is that what you wanted? Let me know if you need more/less. Please add the book/chapter numbers yourself in the title field.

The volume number was missing from the filename so I've added a number 1: lemortdarthur1_##_malory.mp3. I've also changed "Vol I" to "Vol 1" in the album tag to make it sort properly if someone has both vols on their computer.

I hope this is all right - let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Gesine , I need to assign myself a few sections too... although I'm not sure which bits I want to read, theres so many good bits of Arthurian legend!

I've split the book up into a load of .txt files which I shall link to shortly, (just have to do a few edits to all 46 files.... )just to make it easier for people to find their section.

I'm just wondering whether a sentence should be written about each book in this volume, just to briefly describe what it covers? So that the readers will have a vague idea what each book is about?

Ok I do want to have descriptions for the books, but unless we use Caxton's rather vague ones, I'm not really sure what to put especially as some of the books seems to jump about a bit and focus on different people.

Also can someone tell me if the last bit of this bit actually makes sense? Because it doesn't in my head.

ye do your best, then have ye cause to make mighty war upon him.
So that was done, and the messengers had their answers; and that
was this shortly, that neither he nor his wife would not come at
him.

Makes sense to me (in a round about sort of way); which bits don't you understand?

It just looks like too many negatives to me in a way, its mostly the not that bugs me. Although now I re-read it, it makes more sense.
