All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/le-morte-darthur-volume-1-by-sir-thomas-malory/

Le Mort d'Arthur Volume 1, by Sir Thomas Malory
Le Morte d'Arthur (spelled Le Morte Darthur in the first printing and also in some modern editions, Middle French for la mort d'Arthur, "the death of Arthur") is Sir Thomas Malory's compilation of some French and English Arthurian romances. The book contains some of Malory's own original material (the Gareth story) and retells the older stories in light of Malory's own views and interpretations. First published in 1485 by William Caxton, Le Morte d'Arthur is perhaps the best-known work of English-language Arthurian literature today. Many modern Arthurian writers have used Malory as their source, including T. H. White for his popular The Once and Future King. (Wikipedia)
  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: 01 December 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/1251
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
Note: Most sections are between 3000 and 4000 words, a few are longer and a few are shorter. Enjoy! :)

I have left the chapter summaries in the text files, however I would prefer it if you did not record them.

    (Admin link)
  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
    Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "Book [number], chapter [number], Volume 1 of Le Mort d'Arthur. - This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by [your name]"
    • Say:
"Le Mort d'Arthur Volume 1, by Sir Thomas Malory. Book [number], chapter [number]"
    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
End of Book [number], chapter [number]"
      If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Le Mort d'Arthur Volume 1, by Sir Thomas Malory."
Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording:
    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some background noise, you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity (Mac/Win) has much improved noise-cleaning. See this thread for more information.

    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
lemortdarthur1_##_malory.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (lemortdarthur1_01_malory.mp3)

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

Title: ## - Bk [X] Chapters [X-X] (where ## is your section number)
    Artist: Sir Thomas Malory
Album: Le Mort d'Arthur, Vol 1

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader (when your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread):
      http://upload.librivox.org
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: ld - Rowen
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.
I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
  • your name/pseudonym as you want to appear in the LibriVox catalog, and your website URL if you like. These are only necessary if this is your first LibriVox recording.
  • the file size of your .mp3 file.
[/list]

Any questions?
Please post below or PM me. :)

I'm not really sure if the Introduction section should be recorded or not.

Also not sure whether the chapter summary's should be left out or not? Opinions?

In general, I think if it's in the Gutenberg version, we should read it --- and I think it adds some interesting information.

Ah poor Rowen, still waiting? I'll take this then. My first English undergrad exam was about Arthurian literature. I'll sign up for a section, too. Be back in a tick.

I agree with Chris - I always like reading the intros - so I've added them in and have signed myself up for it! Hope that's ok. :)

I've created 46 sections, is that what you wanted? Let me know if you need more/less. Please add the book/chapter numbers yourself in the title field.

The volume number was missing from the filename so I've added a number 1: lemortdarthur1_##_malory.mp3. I've also changed "Vol I" to "Vol 1" in the album tag to make it sort properly if someone has both vols on their computer.

I hope this is all right - let me know if you need anything else. :)

Thanks Gesine :D, I need to assign myself a few sections too... although I'm not sure which bits I want to read, theres so many good bits of Arthurian legend! :)

I've split the book up into a load of .txt files which I shall link to shortly, (just have to do a few edits to all 46 files.... )just to make it easier for people to find their section. :)

I'm just wondering whether a sentence should be written about each book in this volume, just to briefly describe what it covers? So that the readers will have a vague idea what each book is about?

Great idea to provide text links. Also good idea to describe the books, if you'd like to do that!

I'd like to read section 06, if you don't object to people doing them out of order.

Ok I do want to have descriptions for the books, but unless we use Caxton's rather vague ones, I'm not really sure what to put especially as some of the books seems to jump about a bit and focus on different people.

Also can someone tell me if the last bit of this bit actually makes sense? Because it doesn't in my head. :?

Then they advised the king to send for the duke and his wife by a
great charge; and if he will not come at your summons, then may
ye do your best, then have ye cause to make mighty war upon him.
So that was done, and the messengers had their answers; and that
was this shortly, that neither he nor his wife would not come at
him.

Makes sense to me (in a round about sort of way); which bits don't you understand?

"that neither he nor his wife would not come at

It just looks like too many negatives to me in a way, its mostly the not that bugs me. Although now I re-read it, it makes more sense.
