In one of Charles Dickens’ most beloved stories, Philip Pirrip, known as “Pip”, narrates his own journey, from the hindsight of 50 years.
Pip grows up with his older sister after losing his parents at a very early age. His sister, a tough unloving woman, rules Pip and her gentle husband Joe with an iron hand. During Pip's 7th year, while playing in the marshes, he is accosted by an escaped criminal whom he decides to help by stealing food from his own home. But the convict is caught and returned to prison.
Miss Havisham, an eccentric, rich recluse, sends for Pip to come to her house to play with Estella, a haughty and rude girl about his age. Although Pip is ashamed of himself as a poor uneducated boy, he is fascinated by Estella.
A few years later, he becomes apprenticed to Joe, a blacksmith, but dreams of becoming rich and clever and marrying Estella. A stranger, Mr. Jaggers, arrives to inform him that he has come into a handsome property, and will be removed from his present home to be brought up as a gentleman. The benefactor is kept secret, but Pip is sure it must be Miss Havisham.
In London, he acquires a tutor, grand new clothes and the lifestyle he always wanted. However, life is complicated as a gentleman in society, and he finds himself very unhappy, as Estella remains indifferent to him, involved with someone else. Pip begins overspending his generous allowance, and worse, spurns his old friends. Then unexpected problems from his past arise, and begin to transform his attitude.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of Great Expectations. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens. "
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.

Alright, the MW is all ready. It looks like you haven't done a project since the new system was put in place, so you will need to create an account for the workflow (MW). Here are a couple of links on how to login the first time, and also instructions on how to use the MW.
If you have any questions, please let me know. It is different than it used to be, but still similar enough that it shouldn't be to steep of a learning curve to use.
Also, we no longer need the leading numbers before the chapter title in the MW, and as long as the titles are correct in the MW, you will not need to add ID tags to the files.
I think that is all for now. Again, any questions, let me know!
Maria,
Help! I can't seem to log in to the MW. When I click on BC Admin, I am taken to a screen which says I don't have the necessary permissions, with no request for a login at all. I somehow got through it the last posting, but I can't get in now.
There should be an option on that page to "logout". If it does, do that and try logging back in again.
This has happened in the past when someone is already logged into the uploader with the generic user name and password (You can use your BC name and password for the uploader as well as for the MW). Or it can happen if your session has timed out. Either way the solution is the same - you need to log out and log back in again.
Maria,
I have uploaded Chapters 3 and 4, and have managed to get into the MW by logging out and back in, as you suggested. But when I come back to this forum, the new files do not show in the MW. The first two chapters posted to the MW, but this time it hasn't happened. I do not understand what is going on. Am I missing a step? After posting to the MW, there is no obvious step to take other than "logout". I appreciate your help.
I've been trying for several days to log on and set up a new administrative password--completely without success. The word "quit" is not in my vocabulary. I'll continue my attempts until I succeed.
