I'm being a bit frivolous with this one... :P

The Complete Genome of the Porcine Circovirus
from
Archives of Virology vol. 143, no. 9 1998 (1998)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/12280941?report=genbank&to=1758
The paper has authors, but not the genome as such  so I left them out.

word... I mean base-perfect PLing appreciated.
Cheers, Ava.

The author would be astonished at the current enthusiasm for sourdough breads!

Hello everyone! So sorry for my delay there; I was out of town. Thank you all for your submissions! The MW has been updated, and Jo, could you please add Bertha M. Clark as an author in the database? (Section 13).

Ava, your submission of the virus genome absolutely made my entire night (I'm a bio nerd through and through, hence the topic of this coffee break collection!) I agonized about it for a while, and though our ability to sequence DNA has changed our understanding of biology in countless ways, I'm not sure it's the right fit for a whole LibriVox section. It was a brilliant idea though, so I wonder if there was a way to have a "bonus" track, or somehow indicate that this is a little side treat for listeners? You and Jo both being admins, I imagine you have more experience with the out-of-the-box submissions, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. I was just picturing the average coffee break listener having time for one of these sections between meetings at work, and being terribly confused.

I'm happy to continue the discussion!

I know I was quite out of the box with this one... and it turned out to be longer than I expected...

There would be the possibility of treating this as poetry and giving it its own project, however, I am not a fan of such tiny stand-alone projects. I would really prefer having the genome included in this project. Jo can change the order of the entries in the MW (in fact, you can do that too I think) so that this one would end up as the last entry of this collection. This might help listeners to skip stuff. You can also add an extra description to the summary if you feel it deserves one, or rename the title to "complete genome base-sequence" or some such. I am not possessive in this respect

Jo - any thoughts?
Cheers, Ava.

I think moving this to the last spot and adding a comment as to the nature of the recording in the description sounds like a reasonable approach. I'm a chemist by profession, but I probably wouldn't choose to listen to the base sequence of a genome (or the amino acid sequence of a protein, for that matter) as light entertainment, which I think is the point of these coffee break collections. However, that's not to say there aren't lots of folks out there who would find this fascinating.

Rosie - either you or I can arrange the sections in whatever order you want before cataloging. It's a simple matter of rearranging the rows in the section compiler by dragging and dropping them where you want them. For example, for the nonfiction collections, I always alphabetize the submissions when I catalog the project.

Happy to discuss further if you wish.

All great points!! OK, I added it to the last section and listed it as Special Section - Reading of DNA: "The Complete Genome of the Porcine Circovirus" (I put the actual title in quotes since I added the first portion), and I listed the authors as Various. Should we add a section 21 for this, or keep the whole collection at 20?

As far as the total number of sections, I'll leave that up to you to decide, Rosie. :)
