The Defence of the Bride and Other Poems by Anna Katharine Green (1864 - 1935).

Anna Katharine Green is now best-known for her popular mystery and detective stories, but she also wrote some excellent poetry, a selection of which is collected in this volume. ( Carolin)

1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

  Set your recording software to:
  Channels: 1 (Mono)
  Bit Rate: 128 kbps
  Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
7. DURING recording:
  • At the beginning of the recording, read the abbreviated "LibriVox disclaimer":
  "[Poem title], by Anna Katharine Green, read for LibriVox.org by [your name]" or some variation on that, adding date, location, your personal URL, etc., if you wish. You are also not obliged to say your name.
  • Then read the poem.
  • At the end, say: "End of poem. This recording is in the public domain." and leave five seconds of silence (or ten seconds, if the recording is longer than 30 minutes).
8. At the end of the book, say (in addition):
  "End of The Defence of the Bride and Other Poems by Anna Katharine Green.
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.

Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

The only new reading I'm taking right now are some short poems.
Could I read 8,9,11 and 24?

And, unfortunately, I'm maxed out on DPL commitments at the moment.

hi kushkumar, welcome to librivox!

you are welcome to read poems for this collection. to sign you up, i need to know under which name or pseudonym you would like to appear in the catalog. we can also link to your personal website or blog.

also, before getting started, please submit a one minute test. this is not an audition, but rather a way for us to make sure that your recordings have the right bit rate, sample rate, etc. and to help you out if anything needs to be adjusted

My first time PLing. Here is what I heard:

Pearls - Perfect, except the recording also includes Shadows. Pearls ends at aprox. 0:38

Shadows - perfect!

Rosa, Dying - aprox. 0:17 “Another breath” said twice. The last stanza was not included in this recording: poem continued on page 64 of the archive.org book linked to in the forum.

I just listened to Sunrise from the Mountains. The last 12 lines were not included in the recording; the poem continues on page 102 on the archive.org book linked to in the forum.

I'm really enjoying the PL thing - considering DPL for this project - what kind of turn-around time do we hope for when a section is posted to when the DPL listens and responds?

ideally, the dpl listens to a file within a few days after it comes in. id say a section should be listened to within a week. readers of course like to have feedback as soon as possible, but we are all volunteers and have real lives besides librivox
