The Story of Doctor Dolittle (Dramatic Reading) by Hugh Lofting (1886 - 1947).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-story-of-doctor-dolittle-dramatic-reading-by-hugh-lofting/

Volunteers outside the USA: Hugh Lofting died in 1947. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe (copyright term is author's death plus 70 years).
John Dolittle, M. D., was once a famous doctor. But then he learned to talk Animal-Language, picked up several interesting pets, and gradually began to lose his patients. Finally the only patient who remains, the Cat's-Meat-Man, makes a suggestion - why doesn't he give up treating people and become an animal doctor?
And so Dr. Dolittle becomes an animal doctor, and life seems to be going well. But with the addition of an escaped crocodile to his store of pets, even the animals stop coming to see him. What to do?
Children of all ages - and adults too - will enjoy the story of the good Doctor and his animals as he travels to Africa and back, braves shipwrecks and pirates, escapes from prison, and tries to reunite a little boy with his kidnapped uncle, all with the help of his charming animal friends. (Summary by Rachel)

Please note that this book was written at a different time and includes attitudes which are now considered racist. Some modern editions are available with some of this changed - this recording is of the original public domain text, as it was first published in 1920.

Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Hey there!
This is a really cute book, all about a man who can speak with animals and what happens when he gets called to Africa to cure a monkey epidemic. There are lots of talking animals which I am making gender neutral, since who knows what animals would sound like anyway? :D

Kangaroo692 is going to be narrating (and he wrote me a summary too!)
I will be reading the role of Dab-Dab the Duck.
My little sister SuperCoconut will be reading the roles of Gub-Gub the Pig and the Tiny Red Monkey.
My brother Willy2 will be reading the very small part of the Horse.
And Elizabby will be reading the role of Polynesia the Parrot, as well as DPL'ing the finished chapters.

Yay!

"Cast Credit, Dedication, and Introduction", please :)
The "Cast" document is just a list showing the characters, it doesn't get read :)

I don't really understand how a Drama reading works, but I would like to be a part of this if there are openings. :D
