    1. How to volunteer to BC a play:
      This is a great opportunity for anyone who's always wanted to BC a dramatic reading but isn't quite ready to do a full-length play. (Of course it's open to experienced BCs as well!) Please note that if you propose a play for inclusion in the collection, you are responsible either for editing, proof-listening and coordinating it yourself, or for finding other volunteers to fill these roles. Volunteers outside the USA: Be aware that some of the plays are still protected by copyright law some places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).

      Please note for ease of claiming parts all plays will have gender neutral casting.
      Please look at the list of plays that have previously been submitted before choosing a play to co-ordinate. Please claim your play in the thread; You will be the BC for your play. I will put files in the MW and keep that up to date but you are expected to Proof Listen submitted parts and then edit the play together when all parts are submitted. This collection is capped at 10 plays. Each BC needs to provide the following information about each play:

      * Title and author
      * PD text link
      * Link to author on Wikipedia, and death date, if known
      * Link to title on Wikipedia
      * Number of roles (including narrator) this project will have
      * Original publication date
      * The list of characters in your plays so when we have a MW I can set up your sections properly!

      If you would like to claim a role yourself please do so. Below are some resources you can use to find a play, but don't feel limited to these. Also, remember to check what has already been recorded in the previous One-Act Play Collections (see next post in this thread)

      Fifty Contemporary One-Act Plays: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/36984

      The Atlantic Book of Modern Plays: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/16435

      Washington Square Plays: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3068

      Comtemporary One Act Plays http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/37970

      Voces Populi by F Anstey http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/37597

      King Arthur's Socks and Other Plays by Floyd Dell http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/6587?msg=welcome_strangerNot PD for Europe/Australia

      Project Gutenberg also has a list of many authors who have written one-act plays: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/One_Act_Plays_(Bookshelf)
      Readers: to find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard. Please Listen against the text to make sure that all lines have been read.

      Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello! There are two I'd love to do:
A really short one act that I like-

Human Nature by Floyd Dell
http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/6587/pg6587.html

Two celestial figures decide to see what Earth is like. Probably less than a 5 minute play.
Another one-act I like:

The Second Story Man, (http://www.gutenberg.org/files/3302/3302-h/3302-h.htm) by Upton Sinclair.

3 characters, probably a ~35 minute one act.

I'm guessing I can only do one! If so, Human Nature, please. I'd love someone to adopt the other if I cannot do it.

I would prefer, to start with, that each person only BC one play. The reason being that the last collection ended up with me having to take over from BC's who has signed up to do two plays and couldn't complete them. I am not saying that as a complaint as I know people's real life kick in and I was happy to do it. However it is more difficult to pick up someone else's project so for now please just choose one and if that one gets finished and there is still space then you could do another. Hope that's ok thanks. :9:

Michele,
I can MC this for you. I'll head on over and see how the seventh collection is set up and then do the same for this one.

Michele,

Your MW is now up.

I have looked to read a part in the one act play collection before and have found it terribly confusing. So, to make it easier on people who may not be as familiar with the process, I've moved some things around in the MW. Basically, put all of the instructions for a reader together in one spot.

Enjoy!

Hi Ali
I am just about to update the MW to state that this is not PD for readers in Europe and/or Australia and other countries which observe copyright of author's death +70 years.
Before I sign you up please can you let me know if you are still able to read for this play thanks

We need to double check the PD details for this play as the writer was still having works published in 1953. given this information we need to know her birth and death dates. Depending on this we need to identify this as not PD for Europe/Australia and countries where the +70 rule applies. The rule of shorter term does not apply as these were published outside of USA. Please can you confirm this before people start to sign up to parts. Thanks

Hi Michele,

So you know, I'm Canadian, but I'm in the United States (and have been for several years) for grad school, and I'll be recording in the United States. But definitely nothing to do with Europe or Australia. Please let me know what will happen.

Thanks,

Ali
