These are example of how the titles appear in my feed reader (note the ...by).

From https://librivox.org/rss/latest_releases
Young Carthaginian, The by HENTY, G. A.
Two Destinies, The by COLLINS, Wilkie
Soul of Prayer, The by FORSYTH, P. T.
Blue Jar Story Book, The by Various Authors
Andy,

Moving the articles (A, An, The or in other languages Die, Der, Das, etc.) is intentional. It is a form of sorting used by librarians - to ignore the articles at the beginning of the title and start with the first significant word. The capitalization of the author's last name is also intentional and came into effect with the latest version of software in August 2013.
andy5995 wrote: And a separate issue, this is from the html source code at https://librivox.org/pages/librivox-feeds/

Code: Select all

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; Feed" href="https://librivox.org/feed/" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; Comments Feed" href="https://librivox.org/comments/feed/" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; LibriVox Feeds Comments Feed" href="https://librivox.org/pages/librivox-feeds/feed/" />
Two of those feeds appear to be inactive. And the other three active URLs listed on the viewable page aren't listed. Firefox use that information when one clicks on 'Subscribe to this page' from the bookmarks menu. Other feed readers use it as well.

But of course the links listed on the page can still be added "manually." :)
I am not sure which links you are having trouble with as they all appear to work for me. If by "inactive" you mean that new content hasn't been added in the last month then I guess you are referring to both the "News" and "Community Podcast". The News items are submitted infrequently when something really big happens like passing 7,000 books available not for everyday events. The community podcast takes a while to put together (the Librivox's 8th Anniversary! released on 10 August was started on 29 March viewtopic.php?f=22&t=45529). If you have some experience with them your help would be appreciated. The planning thread for the community podcasts can be found here viewtopic.php?f=22&t=37182

I understand now. :)

The two "comment" links in the html source code, between the head tags.
https://librivox.org/comments/feed/
https://librivox.org/pages/librivox-feeds/feed/

There are no items in the second feed I listed directly above, and the first one gives me a page that says,
We weren't able to find that project. You must include either the Project Id or the Project Slug (i.e., "tom_sawyer_by_mark_twain" , without any other link info)
And these three that are listed on the RSS feeds page aren't included between the head tags in the html source code:

Code: Select all

http://feeds.feedburner.com/LibrivoxCommunityPodcast
https://librivox.org/podcast.xml
https://librivox.org/rss/latest_releases
This page could explain it better than I:
http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/use-links

Code: Select all

<link rel="alternate"
      type="application/rss+xml"
      title="RSS"
      href="/updates.rdf" />
It gives the possibility to RSS Readers to find the Web site updates feed. Note that, at the time of this writing, the mime-type application/rss+xml is still a draft "The application/rss+xml Media Type" and is not yet accepted by IETF.

That feed is presently working for me. What RSS client are you using? I'm able to subscribe to it using Firefox live bookmarks and liferea feedreader.

Andy, I'm using media monkey as I've used right from the start. It stopped working a few weeks back for me.

There's a related thread in the media monkey forum:
Podcast Subscription Problem [#11881]

And this isn't necessarily the cause of your problem, but the feed doesn't pass the W3C validation tool:
http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Flibrivox.org%2Fpodcast.xml

Often RSS clients (or feed readers) can compensate for a feed that isn't W3C compliant, so I'm not suggesting that's the reason, only making a note of it. You might get more insight about it on the media monkey forum.

Thank you for that Andy. It appears from that thread that it is "fixed" in version 4.1.1.1693 of MM. What version do you have installed, Mark?

That doesn't, of course, explain why our feeds won't validate :evil:. It is something we shall have to look into, but we can't right at the moment, unfortunately.

Hi. I wasn't sure if I should post this under RSS or iTunes. My understanding is that iTunes uses RSS. I've noticed on a few more recent books some errors on the iTunes store when I search under podcasts:

Magna Moralia: No files
Parmenides: File names are not in proper order
Theaetetus: File names are not in proper order
Sophist: File names are not in proper order
Statesman: File names are not in proper order

If there is anything I can do to help resolve this please let me know. Thank you. :thumbs:

They are supposed just to be the RSS and that is OK
unless someone comes up with a better answer could you tell us what order https://librivox.org/magna-moralia-by-aristotle/
puts the files on iTunes ?
Just something like 1,6,3,2.5,4 would do

Hi Anne. Thank you for your response. When I start up iTunes on my computer and go to the iTunes store I type in "magna moralia" to perform a search. The recording pops up under podcasts but there are no files that can be streamed. Recordings I made prior to Magna Moralia can be streamed. The four recordings after Magna Moralia can also be streamed but their sections are out of order and recordings that came after Magna Moralia and the other four aren't on iTunes at all.

When I go to the LibriVox website https://librivox.org/magna-moralia-by-aristotle/ and click on iTunes it only seems to download the first file. I am less concerned about that because the book can just be downloaded in Zip format but I like the convenience of being able to stream directly from the iTunes store podcast category and the fact that the problem seems to arise consistently for recordings after August 2013 seems odd.

:hmm:

I honestly have no idea how these recording get on the iTunes store but I think it is really neat that they are there. The first time a friend ever heard one of my recordings was because he listened to the podcast on the iTunes store. I didn't even know they were up there until he told me. I've assumed either software does it or else it waits in line for a volunteer.

Others know more than I do about feeds (not that that is difficult :oops: )

It waits for a volunteer to submit them, or did. There are currently a few technical issues which prevent us from adding more at the moment.
