The method I'm am using at the moment to get rid of slight bumps in the flat line is to highlight the offending bit and use noise removal on just that bit. Is there another way?

Some bumps I delete. You know, highlight it and press 'Delete' key. And some bumps I just ignore, leave them in.

Or you can de-amplify, as I do with excessively loud breaths.

Or cut it out and paste in the same length of time of room noise.

My mind obviously wasn't on LibriVox when I saw this post. I read it and thought: "Getting rid of swallows, why would anyone want to do that? I always thought they were nice birds."

Must be time to take a break. :)

Me too!
I read the title and was all ready to gear up and give the poster a piece or two of my mind about animal welfare and such...

And what do I get when reading the post? Some boring, LV related stuff... No birds in sight...

Are those like grockles only american? -m Just wondering.

As to swallows I seem to have done something to the house martins. We normally have two or three nests under our eaves but this year none, and I haven't seen a single martin about the village either. V.sad. I hope the Maltese haven't shot them all.

I've never heard of grockles. The grackles we get here are the common grackle (quiscalus quiscula) and the great-tailed grackle (quiscalus mexicanus). The great-tailed grackle is especially obnoxious and loud, especially in the evenings when they come in to roost. I took this photo a couple of years ago early in the morning. They really like the area around that supermarket, and you have to be careful where you step, because the pavement under the trees in the parking lot is always limed and foul smelling with their droppings.

I just stumbled onto this thread, expecting a routine discussion of noise-cleaning -- and to my delighted surprise I got my chuckles for the week!
Somehow, this was a typically LibriVoxy diversion, puns, birds, local slang, a bit of pleasant humor, and all.
(I happen to like swallows a lot. But I would gladly get rid of herring gulls, screaming bullies that have ruined many a pleasant walk on the pier!)

I wonder if this thread has inspired RuthieG to start a project on stories about birds? :-)
