Cain: A Mystery is Lord Byron's retelling of the classical Biblical story from the point of view of its antagonist. Undoubtedly influenced by Milton's Paradise Lost, Byron's Cain is defiant and questioning. In trying to come to terms with the mortality humanity has been punished with, he comes face to face with Lucifer, who takes him to the "Abyss of Space," shows him a vision of Earth's violent natural history, and gives him a true understanding of death. Upon his return, a devastated Cain carries out the familiar end of his tragedy. Cain: A Mystery is a closet drama, a popular form for Romantic writers, where the script is not intended to be performed onstage, but rather read aloud with a small group. (Sarah Terry)
Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This will be my first time BCing a play, but I thought LibriVox would be the perfect place for closet drama!
I’ll be editing, PLing parts, and reading for Lucifer, but I’ll be looking for someone to PL the finished acts.
I’m not looking for gender perfect casting, and the available parts in rough size order are:
Cain
Adah, Cain’s wife
Abel
Eve
Adam
Zillah, Abel’s wife
Angel of the Lord
And there’s the Narrator as well. Because this is a closet drama, and not really intended for performance on stage, there is somewhat less narration than might usually be found.
I’m looking forward to getting started with this!!
I'd love to be involved! I'd be happy to PL the finished chapters for you.
I'd also like the claim a part, something small (I'm rather busy at the moment) but dramatic - how about Abel? If you are doing gender-neutral then I could read a man's part. Otherwise Eve.

Awesome, thanks so much! I'll put you down for Abel as soon as the MW is up
So, MW in place!
I also added a note about the final files' name. Let me know if you agree or if you were thinking of something else.
I'd suggest writing a summary of you own; it would be better than a wikipedia summary
As a devoted Byron fan I would love to be involved in this, but I dont have the time to do a bigger part. At least I can make Adam sound like an old man.

Thanks so much! The note about the final file names will work well. I'll fill the window, and add a better summary by tonight

I'll sign you up for Adam as soon as I get the window in place!
Ooh, this looks interesting. I am a bit committed, but would love to have a crack at Cain, think I could fit that in. The other Byron plays look cool too, BTW.

Signed you up for Cain! Yeah, I've been taking a look at a number of closet dramas by the Romantic poets - some very fun potential projects there!
