Thanks so much for these Brian - these are all PL fantastic!

I listened to them all one after another and was fascinated at how the accents appeared to migrate up and down the social classes!

(We were trying a different style of colour coding for Chapters 1 and 2, but I gather from your comment that you don't find it as easy to use?)

If you are interested in doing more dramatic readings, we are looking for more men in the current reading of "Northanger Abbey" - link in my signature line. I'd love to PL some more of your work!

I was just about to record Colonel Valentine, but I'm not sure what accent/voice I should do. Sidney Johnson is my basic "British guy" accent, soo, do you have any preferences as to what I should do? I watched the old BBC video with him, but it sounded pretty much like my Sidney Johnson one.... =P

Any British sounding accent will be fine - the more upper class sounding the better for a Colonel. Just watch your "a" sounds, remember the Brits like them long and rounded like "ar", so "ar-fter" for "after". I'm having fun acquiring a British accent too!

It's true! Except watch out for 'piano' which is still short (and unlike many words, sounds super-odd to a British ear with a long-a. I listened to a commercial audiobook recently with this mistake in ... so unfortunate they didn't get a British PLer to catch it.) More usefully for Valentine -- 'scandal's both short.

And Woolwich is more like Wool-itch!

Hi Cori! Do you have time to PL the Holmes files? If not I'll do it myself, but this is exactly the kind of thing I'd like feedback on! I struggle with the Aussie "I" sound slipping in, as in "noight" for night" and I'm sure there are others!

Yes, I can certainly fit that in over the weekend! And there are so many Brit accents that diversity isn't usually a problem ... but this business of the piAHno was very annoying.
