PLEASE NOTE:The Betrothed (orig. Italian: I promessi sposi) is an Italian historical novel by Alessandro Manzoni, first published in 1827, in three volumes. It has been called the most famous and widely read novel of the Italian language.
Set in northern Italy in 1628, during the oppressive years under Spanish rule, it is sometimes seen as a veiled attack on Austria, which controlled the region at the time the novel was written. (The definitive version was published in 1842.) It is also noted for the extraordinary description of the plague that struck Milan around 1630.
The Betrothed was inspired by Walter Scott's Ivanhoe and was the first Italian historical novel. It deals with a variety of themes, from the cowardly, hypocritical nature of one prelate (Don Abbondio) and the heroic sainthood of other priests (Padre Cristoforo, Federico Borromeo), to the unwavering strength of love (the relationship between Renzo and Lucia, and their struggle to finally meet again and be married), and offers some keen insights into the meanderings of the human mind.
This summary is a placeholder summary from Wikipedia. The BC will write a permanent summary before cataloging. (Summary by Woolly Bee)
- Casting is gender perfect for the larger parts (character appears in 4+ chapters).
- Specify the section number of the part(s) you are claiming; this makes assigning the section easier.
- Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded lines within 1 month of placing your claim if your character appears in five chapters or less. If your character appears in 6-12 chapters, please submit your lines within 2 months of placing your claim. If your character appears in more than 12 chapters, submit your recordings up to 3 months after placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after the allotted time, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the deadline. - How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
