PL OK!

Actually, this was much better than OK - it was delightful! I loved the sophistication you brought to Irene Adler, and the dramatization of her letter and disguised voice were fantastic! Lovely reading - I can't wait to hear it all put together!

Hi Todd HW , I would like to read for The King Of Bohemia . Have done recording here of Part 1
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/scandal_1.mp3
but was unsure of process afterwards as I'm new here - do I need to edit my part into the narration ( quite happy to do this ) or is that something you do?

Thanks
Nick Richmond :D

Hi Nick! (I'm not Todd, I'm the BC or Book Coordinator for Scandal in Bohemia.)

Thanks for your interest and activity! I will just mention that it is usual to "claim" a part before actually recording it - just in case two people go for the same part at the same time. It would be a shame to do all that work and then find out that someone else had pipped you at the post!

Also, did you use the Google doc I colour coded and linked in the first post? That would make it easier rather than finding your own text and trying to find your lines.

I've had a listen to the file (Proof Listen or PL) and there are a few corrections:

At the start of the file you need to do your "voice credit". This is the bit where you say "The King of Bohemia, read by Nick Richmond". Since there are other corrections to be made you can add this to the start of the file, or put it at the start of the Part 2 file, up to you.

@ 00:42 there is a line missing “You had my note?”
@ 02:52 there is a long gap in the middle of a speech. Around 1 second is the preferred gap in the middle of a speech.

Very nice reading of the dreadful name of your fiancee! As I was preparing the text I was very glad that Holmes didn't have to say it! ;)

In a few places the gap between lines is very tight - it makes it difficult for the editors if the lines are very close together. 2-4 seconds is the preferred gap (even if there isn't much to edit in). It is always easier to cut out empty space than to try to add some! Nothing worth correcting in this file, but please bear it in mind for part 2!

Lovely expression and dramatization of the role - I enjoyed listening to it! I think it might be a bit quiet though. Can you check either your compression or amplification - the target range is around 90dB. I'm not a technical person - Todd can give you more info about adjusting the volume if you need it.

I believe we already have an editor for this piece - editors are usually allocated separately from voices. If you want to edit though, "The Valley of the Shadow of Death" is looking for an editor!

Please check the first post for the formatting of the name of the file. It should look like this:

drscandalinbohemia_king_doyle_1 (Then just change the number at the end for part 2.)

If you make the corrections and upload the new file, post here again and I'll spot check the new file. Thanks for all your work on this!

Feel free to claim parts in other scenes or to look at the other dramatic works marked "OPEN" - especially the ones I'm BCing which are linked in my signature file! Hint, hint...

and here's part 2
drscandalinbohemia_king_doyle_2.mp3
Part 1 is now PL OK!

Part 2 is also PL OK! :9:

I will just note that it is more convenient for the BC and DPL if you post the full link after you've uploaded the file. Thanks for formatting the file names correctly though!

For the editor, here are the full links:
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/drscandalinbohemia_king_doyle_1.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/drscandalinbohemia_king_doyle_2.mp3

Just a note for the editor, at 1:43 in Part 2 there is a long gap between the sentences: Would she not have made an admirable queen? Is it not a pity that she was not on my level?

Can we please close up that gap in editing? I can't wait to hear it all put together!

Thanks very much Nick - have a look at the links in my signature if you are looking for more dramatic reading work! ;)

May I sign up for Section 4 - Mr. Cuthbert from Anne of Green Gables?

It's just the right size for me!

section 4 Matthew Cuthbert

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/drannesconfession_mathewcuthbert_montgomery.mp3 01:09

This is much too addicting. I really need to exercise some self control and take care of Real Life! I tried to hold off one week, but NO i had to pull out the microphone and plug it in...

Best wishes,
Norman

This is PL OK! Great stuff - you do excellent work! I think it's all been PL OK first pass! :9:

Addictive? I have no idea what you are talking about! I started here reading, then PLing and DPLing, now I'm BCing as well - just look at the links in my signature file! ;) By the way, Kilmeny of the Orchard is also set in Canada (also by LM Montgomery) and has quite a few roles still to fill, of varying sizes so you can choose what you are comfortable with.

Alternatively, if you were looking for something really small, there is a "Bystander" in the Sherlock Holmes story here (Scandal in Bohemia) which is the last part to need filling - then that story will be all claimed!

So the microphone isn't plugged in all the time yet? There is still hope for you! But it is a very slippery slope....

Lucy_k_p wrote:* Title and author: The Chronicles of Clovis by Saki

* Number of roles (including narrator) this project will have: N/A
* Original publication date: 1911
* The list of characters in your DR so when we have a MW I can set up your sections properly! N/A

Here are four of the stories I mentioned (russiandoll was the one who edited the 5th, I have PMed her to ask her to upload it to this collection - If she doesn't get back to me I'll quickly edit it myself, I still have the original file.)

The readers are me, russiandoll and Peter Why. Peter reads Clovis and any male characters, russiandoll and I alternate between reading the narration and all of the female characters. We don't give specific voice credits at the start, since we didn't know what we were going to encounter when we read the stories, so you can just credit all three of us without any details.

Also, obviously, there isn't 'of Dramatic Reading Scene and Story Collection, Volume 001' in the intro - hopefully this isn't a problem.

The stories are:
The Stampeding Of Lady Bastable:

(7:52)

The Jesting Of Arlington Stringham:

The Quest:

(11:30)

The Peace Offering:

The story russiandoll will provide is Adrian.
PL OK!
