"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen

I have at least one brand new reader who has promised to join us if we do some "Austen or Bronte", and I have to make the humiliating confession that I have never read Pride and Prejudice. So now is my chance...

If you'd like to volunteer to read a section, please leave a message in this thread. I've tried to keep them fairly short, so there are a lot on offer - feel free to grab a few!

The gutenberg etext is here.

Please put me down for 6-7, 24-25, & 30-31 (randomly selected--I don't know what's in any of these chapters!)

I know I haven't finished my other readings yet, but they'll be done shortly and this is too good a book not to read.

A hint for readers new to Austen: she is a humourist poking fun at her society and times. She is not dead serious about love and romance like the Bronte sisters.

Please sign me up for chapters 8-9. I'll probably do more as well, but given the heavy schedule at my own blog, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew!

I love this book. In spite of the fact that the humor was a bit too dry for me the first time I read it. Next time I read it, I was a few years older....

10-11 and 40-41 for me, please.

This book is a great favorite. I used to read it to my wife, before the kiddies entered the scene...

Heh! Last night I started to do exactly the same (once the kiddy was safely in bed).

Since Sureka hasn't registered yet, I'm volunteering her for chapters 6-7. I'm pretty sure she and I will both do more, but we'll leave lots of space for others to join us...

Edit: changed to chapters 12-13 'cause I'd missed Kristen's post above

Hey, tis, don't forget to put me down for my chapters. Sureka is welcome to have 6-7, but I offered to do them earlier in the thread. Don't mind what I read in this one, just don't overlook me, please!

I am totally new here and would LOVE P&P to be my first project - I will take 20 - 25.

I will have to set up the software, which I expect to be able to do this weekend. Please feel free to inform me about any site etiquette or conventions, and be patient if I have trouble setting up!

Sorry! I did miss your post  thanks for pointing it out! I've moved Sureka to a later chapter, but I hope you don't mind that I've put you on 26-27 instead of 24-25 to avoid a clash with Elisabeth.

Welcome, and thank you for volunteering. There are a lot of chapters here, and I'm sure we'll take a while to do it - so there's no rush. If you need any help getting things set up, do ask, there are lots of friendly people on the forum to help :)

I've been away for a few days dealing with life, and like Hugh I ought to wrap up my current commitments before volunteering for more, but... I just can't resist Jane Austen! So put me down for 14-15 and 44-45, please.
