Multilingual Short Works Collection 013 - Poetry & Prose

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/multilingual-short-works-collection-013-by-various/

This collection is for short works, in any language except (modern) English. This can include poetry but also prose, fiction as well as non-fiction.
Feel free to choose any work which is in the public domain. If you're unsure what we mean by 'public domain', please read this explanation. Try to stick to works that run less than 60 minutes.
Please follow the instructions in this post carefully. :) There is no need to "sign-up" before recording; please remember that you should choose a work that is Public Domain in your country AND that was published before 1923; if you are unsure about anything, please post here and ask before recording!

Everyone can contribute as many recordings as he/she wants.
It's OK to submit readings in English (English being a language, I figure), but as there are plenty of other places to put those, let's limit them to special cases such as interesting regional dialects or accents.

If you are interested to see what has been done previously, check the previous Multilingual Collections in our catalog (but we welcome multiple versions of the same work).

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi ShiNeko,

I just wrongly posted a message to another multilingual project that is completed. I have finished Le Conte Futur by Paul Adam and I should be uploading it today but I will rather take two more days to fine-tune it.

I will be back day after tomorrow. :)

I also need the link from the uploader. And would you please give brief indication of the work in a few words (for example: poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction, genre or keywords; will be used in the summary)?

Hi ShiNeko,

You are right, I forgot the link from the uploader. It is https://librivox.org/uploads/hokuspokus/msw013_contefutur_adam_ft_128kb.mp3

As for the rest, this small masterpiece of literature is prose bordering to poetry, I should say a "poetical prose". Still better a "dramatic prose", for it consists mostly of dialogues and monologues.

It is fiction for its final romantic conclusion about a war encounter turned into a love encounter hardly responding to reality. As a matter of fact, the battle of Woerth (5 and 6 août 1870) was a most bloody and fierce battle of the Franco-Prussian War (19 July 1870 – 10 May 1871) which ended in the loss of most of Alsace and some parts of Lorraine to France and their attachment to the German Empire under the title of Imperial Territory of Alsace-Lorraine (final Treaty of Frankfurt of 10 May 1871). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_W%C3%B6rth, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Prussian_War)

To be sure, I was intrigued by and suspicious of this piece when I first read it but ended up in admiring it as a noble, almost religious allegory. It's a piece of pure art; it does not need to be realistic! Understandably this put me highly on my guard about my reading for it had to be up to it as much as possible. This is primarily why it took me so long to finish it.

Keywords: love, admiration, compassion, bragging, blood (as sign of sacrifice but of redeeming self-sacrifice, too).

Take care,

Fannie
