You're welcome. They were fun reads, though not very good history. :)

I am having a crazy hard time figuring out how to get the db levels right. I have watched a couple videos on it and am still a little confused. I assume that it’s not as easy as going in and just adjusting a setting. Any recommendations?

Hello

Your recording is great but there are some technical notes

PL Notes:

a) The recording should be in mono sound, not stereo sound.

b) The volume falls outside of the target range (86–92 dB).

c) There is a very long silence in the beginning which needs to be edited out, the actual recording starts from 00:38s so you could trim till 00:37

d) You have missed one line from the intro "" [Optional: "Read by your name."] "Lives of the Presidents of the United States in Words of One Syllable, by Helen W."

e) at 00:38 you have said "Section six" whereas it should be "Section three"

f) There is an extra silence from 21:34 till 21:47, so please edit out

g) At the end of the recording just have a 5 s silence not more than that right now it is somewhere around 10 or more seconds.

also since you would be editing could you please name the file as below
Filename: livesofpresidents_##_pierson_128kb.mp3 where ## is the section number. (e.g. livesofpresidents_01_pierson_128kb.mp3)

If you have any concerns, let us know :)
Thank you

I am sorry you had to go through all the trouble. If all the other PL points have been rectified, I can take care of the volume issue.
On the other hand, if you are curious how it can be done in an easy way here are the steps which I saw in one of Phil's (one of the librivox admins) youtube video.

In the Audacity software :
a) Open the audio file
b) Select the whole audio
c) In the toolbar you will see an option "Effect"
d) Under Effect you will see an option of Loudness Normalization effect.
e) If you set it to -19 LUFS. It makes the track right around 89 decibels.

I am sure there are other ways, I just shared what little I knew. Hope it helps :)

P.S. I have shared the link of the video in you PM for your reference.

I'll have to message Sati about that. I updated the MW with the new link you submitted though.

Hello,
I am afraid that I will have to back out of my three sections. College started back a couple of weeks ago, so I am going to be busy for a while.

It's all good! We're all volunteers here after all. Sections 14, 16 and 21 are now back open for anyone who wants them.
