Anyway, the second section is equally well read, except that I had put in the instructions that we were going to read the footnotes. It does interrupt the flow of the narrative, but I think most of them provide interesting little tidbits of information, like who the Angstrom and Hertz are named for. So, maybe you could add those in?

Thanks for getting us off to such a good start!
Here is the 'added' Section 2: https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/lasers_02_hellman_128kb.mp3

Time: 7:19

After all the hassle to record the footnotes, save them as an MP3, "noise reduction" them, insert them in the right spots (except for one that had to be rerecorded) etc., I might have been easier and faster just to rerecord the entire section. But I got it done. It isn't quite as smooth as if I had done it again, but I think it is close enough.

When I get to 3, I will know and hopefully it will be easier and smoother. :D

Sorry this was such a hassle. :(
I almost changed my mind, but thought I'd better go with what I has posted.
Usually I don't have footnotes read for most projects, but these seemed so fitting for the most part.

I'll PL for this in the morning.
For now, I've got to get some recording done while everyone's asleep.

Thank you!
I've assigned this section to you..

Please review the special instructions for this project and the first part of this thread for tips on handling references to the figures and diagrams. Let me know if you need any clarification for this particular section.

Hi Wayne, would you please alert me when you finish Section 3, "Radio Waves"? Something in my section refers back to a figure/discussion in yours, and I want to make sure the way I work around the figure later makes sense with the way you worked around it earlier. Thanks, Verla

I had put in the instructions that we were going to read the footnotes.
Do we say, "Footnote 8...end footnote," or do we exclude the number?

Also, the end of footnote 9 refers back to footnote 8 by saying "see footnote on page 15." This is in the context of mentioning Planck's constant again, when it has been explained shortly before, in the previous footnote. I plan to omit this 'see footnote on page 15' phrase. Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Verla

Good questions.

Just "footnote" without the number.
And fine to omit the reference to another footnote.
You're on the right track!

BTW, I think that "Now" at the end sounds stupid and confusing, like maybe the recording got cut off. It would be different if I were heading right into the text of Section 5. Permission to cut it?

Larry,

Here is Section 3. I was just reading above (after recording) that we are stuck with the printed word. In a couple of cases where the idea of what the diagram looked like was really important when it came to understanding what the diagrams and text were trying to explain, that I kind of explained in words what the diagram showed visually. I hope I didn't really mess up, but just let me know what you think/want.

Time: 9:34.

An observation: "The use of vacuum tube or electron tube amplifiers is so widespread that it is unnecessary to explain their operations here in any detail." OR NOT!

I am a Ham (amateur radio operator) and this is one of the best explanations of "carrier wave" I have read. Simple and to the point.

Wayne,

I'll take a listen in the morning, but if you added text, like explaining the diagram, I think we'll have to cut it out. We can omit some types of texts, like picture captions, footnotes, indexes, etc. but not add text. I'll let you know.

Vacuum tubes? Do they help clean carpets, or what?
Yeah, I think my Kenwood 530 and tube finals.
