My two cents here. A little leeway is allowed here - a brief description of a diagram may be OK. As long as it is strictly descriptive with no editorial comment. (not that I think Wayne would do anything like that, of course) If you want a second opinion, just post the time it occurs in track and I will be happy to have a listen.

Jo,

It starts at about 1:49 and covers about two-three sentences. If you look at the script, you will see the example of the sine wave. That is just about where it starts.

Hi Wayne. The way you have described the figure is ok, but you could probably shorten it to this
The single frequency capability of radio waves has been given the name temporal coherence (or coherence in time) and is illustrated as a single sine wave, the common way of representing electromagnetic radiation, and particularly temporally coherent radiation. Temporally incoherent radiation (such as the mixed sounds of the stranded party) would instead look like random overlapping waves.
I would think that most people listening to this either know what a sine wave looks like or they have the option of downloading the text and look at the pictures.

All,

Here is the new recording of Section 3 using Jo's suggested change:

https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/lasers_03_hellman_128kb.mp3

New time: 9:18

The change is a lot smoother. Thanks,

Wayne W2WMC

P.S. I am old enough that you had to have a license for a CB radio KIT6332

Great! I think this sounds great, Wayne! A few minor glitches, but nothing that needs to be fixed.
Truly a collaborative project with your help, Jo. Thanks!

BTW, I think that "Now" at the end sounds stupid and confusing, like maybe the recording got cut off. It would be different if I were heading right into the text of Section 5. Permission to cut it?
Excellent reading!

Just a couple of things that could use some attention.

First, the opening silence is a bit over our one-second limit, so you could trim this down so that it is between .5 - 1.0 seconds.

Then there is a distracting background noise throughout. a kind of hum and flutter.
I would apply some noise reduction. Use the closing five seconds (where you really hear this) as your noise sample and run the noise reduction. You can use the preset values for this. If you need some help with this, just ask,

Then upload the corrected file, but this time add the leading zero the file name so it is _04_ This important so the files sort correctly.

Really nice reading!

Hi Larry -

I had run noise reduction once, but ran it again. Please tell me what you hear now.

Fixed everything else, run time now 9:34.

Good work.
Well, the noise is there, and I think you could run it again, but I'll go ahead and mark it PL OK
I don't know the source for it -- not the typical hum from an internal fan. Reminds my of cards clipped to the spokes of a bicycle, thought not that extreme - a kind of flutter.

Anyway, looking forward to your other recordings. :)

Larry, would it be ok if I PM you to keep working on this? You might mark it OK, but it's not OK by me! I need to get it figured out.

I'm a retired p.i. and listened to/edited hundreds of hours of audio over my career. There's got to be something going on. I have a couple ideas, but don't want to clog up the forum.

Hi, I have uploaded Section 7 Length 7:00
https://librivox.org/uploads/knotyouraveragejo/lasers_07_hellman_128kb.mp3

Two places where figures were discussed, I eliminated some words but I think the paragraphs still make sense. The instances are at 4:25-4:50 Page 30 and 5:23-5:49 Page 32. I will redo them if you want. Thank you
