this is my iteration of section 4, i've done cursory editing and noise reduction, and the checker approved.
i hope the performance is up to librivox standards, even with the occasional plosive.
as for reader name, is it more common for readers to use their actual names for it?

in fact it's the entire last column on page 316 in the archive numerotation. I mentioned details in the Magic Window, if youd like to look there. The page numbers I mention there are the ones on the pages of the actual magazine. So it starts from "The more numerous part of our company"...but ends at the end of the column with "happy to receive like favours from him."serimaluna wrote: ↑June 19th, 2021, 1:45 pm I think I found The Table, I think it is page 236 or page 316 in the reader. Do I start reading from "The more numerous part of our company, affrighted by the very sound," And end before Two Features of a Rover?

that was fast, thanks. I'm about to go to bed now but will check it tomorrow or Monday at the latest. You can take any reader name you want. I myself use my real name as reader name, others use their forum name. Basically it's what you say when you record "read for Librivox.org by ..." the name you say there should be your reader name.missingnumber wrote: ↑June 19th, 2021, 1:49 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/rover0116_04_various_128kb.mp3

Oh, can you please always mention the length of your recording when you post a file ?
Thanks !

Yep, this was really short, unless i missed something. Tried briskly reading the intro so it wouldn’t be longer than the actual joke

I can’t speak for the listener but amused myself, anyway.

ok finally getting to listen to all your sections here, sorry for the delay, but the weekend was quite busy.
Starting with Kathleen:
Here is what you need to change, no need to re-record the whole thing, only Spot edit the parts I mention:
> from 0:23 to 0:29: please always say the title like I marked it in the Magic Window. You read the title of the magazine and the motto, which we always left out so far. So all this can get cut: "The Rover. With bodies how to clothe ideas, taught, and how to draw the picture of a thought". Instead start with "There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet" (as title) and then launch into the summary text: "One of Moore's...." etc
> at 1:02: "T was not the soft magic of streamlet or rill" – you say "hill" but "rill" makes more sense here, as it's a small brook, and he is talking about the magic of water here
> at 1:16: "Who felt how the blest charms of nature improve" – you say "best", I think "blessed" is actually quite fitting for "charms of nature". There is something sublime in the entire poem, so "blessed" fits
> at 1:38: "End of The Rover Volume 1 Number 16, edited by Seba Smith and Lawrence Labree." – all this can get cut. This is only for the final section of the project, since then the book is over, so the end of book disclaimer is only said once. (see first post for details)
thanks for this lovely narration of this wonderful poem I really enjoyed it.

Starting with Kathleen:
While I agree that "Ovoca" was probably a typo for "Avoca" and can safely be corrected, I found a couple of differences that I think make more sense the way they were in the Rover, so we should stick to the source text in this case:kathleenx wrote: ↑June 18th, 2021, 7:47 am Here's Section 1:

Please note when looking up how to pronounce a couple things in the poem, I realised it was a bit different to how it's been typed in the Rover (for example, "Ovoen" in The Rover as opposed to "Avoca" that I found through Google). The version I googled made more sense, but if you'd like me to re-record sticking to what it says in The Rover, please let me know.

it's a wonderful first recording I really enjoyed your narrative, it was easy to understand and follow along. And the story was so sad, you narrated it with the needed empathy.missingnumber wrote: ↑June 19th, 2021, 1:49 pmhttps://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/rover0116_04_various_128kb.mp3 (9:57)

I have a few small notes to correct. But no worries, there is no need to re-record the entire section. We always encourage Spot editing instead of re-recording. It's less work for the reader and also for the prooflistener, who doesn't have to re-listen from scratch. If you need help on how to spot edit, please let me know and I can give you a step-by-step. Usually it's enough to re-record a part of the sentence and then paste it into the right spot.
This is what needs to be done:
> at 2:12: "when the vis inertiae" – you say "via", this is a Latin expression: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/vis_inertiae
> at 2:53: "making up for any seeming slowness in going forth" – you say "going north"
> at 5:45: "who had come to take his leave of one that seemed twined with his earliest love" – you say "lore"
> at the end: you have nearly 7 seconds of silence, please reduce to the standard 5
Then simply reupload with the exact same filename, and the old recording will be replaced by the new one.
Thanks, and congrats to a great start. I hope to hear more from you, maybe even in another Rover.

indeed you hurried through the intro, which was a good preparation to the funny joke to follow. And the voice for Themistocles was simply hilarious, monty-python-style Really enjoyed it and yes, I chuckled with you at the end.iBeScotty wrote: ↑June 19th, 2021, 2:28 pmYep, this was really short, unless i missed something. Thanks so much! I had Ed Wynn help out for Themistocles and had him redo the last line because he chuckled really hard the first time (he likes chuckling):

this is my spot edited version. some clicking made it through, and the edited portions may have more noise, if it's a problem i can re-edit the edits.
hopefully it isn't too jarring.
some of the text was a bit difficult to read, so the errors in words were due to interpreting letters differently.
might be a good idea for me to do these sorts of things one paragraph/section at a time instead of all at once, then splice it all together.

wow what a cool video, to see how those early animated movies were created is a treat. That was still wonderful cooperation, manpower, talent and dedication. I miss the old ways of designing animated movies, they were so much better than the computer designed virtual reality ones we have nowadays. (do I sound old ?)iBeScotty wrote: ↑June 21st, 2021, 6:53 amThanks so much! not jarring at all in fact your edits were perfect and I here basically no difference between the old audio and the new ones. You'll have no trouble with your future sections, seeing you got over the hurdle of spot editing.missingnumber wrote: ↑June 21st, 2021, 11:05 am https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/rover0116_04_various_128kb.mp3 (9:57)

This is PL ok now.
Congrats to your first official section for LV. Many many more to come hopefully.
what I usually do is read the text for myself first before I actually record. That way I already know the storyline and maybe the voices I like to do in the dialogues. Also if tricky words show up, I can look them up right away and I make small notes to remember them once I get to that point in the recording.might be a good idea for me to do these sorts of things one paragraph/section at a time instead of all at once, then splice it all together.
You'll find your best way of recording soon enough.
Thank you
