Here is 3--the lesson is don't mess with Geronimo!

sorry for replying so late, but I was recording my own section yesterday, so I put my PL jobs on hold. :D

But both stories are perfectly PL ok.

Wow, Geronimo's revenge was so diabolical...though I must say, the loving couple could have taken it a little bit less dramatical, at least the woman wouldn't have had to die and try to make the best of their life still. The evil wouldn't have won if they had stuck together despite misfortune.

The captain's wife on the contrary was hilarious  the poor man !

Thank you, Jim, especially for tackling the huge story !

oh that was a fast turn-around. And a story with a happy ending again, how lovely. And I liked the speaking in character you're doing, very dramatic. Well done and textually all perfect.

Sorry...there is only the shortened silence at the end of the file...could you add 3 seconds to make it the full 5 seconds required, please ?

The rest is fine, thank you, Adrian !

Section 1 - Alice

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/rover0115_1_various_128kb.mp3
8.19

The only reference I can find to this poem is that it was published in the Boston Miscellany of Literature in 1842 which I think just predates The Rover version. However that does not mention the poet's name either.

thank you Alan, a lovely poem. I liked it, especially the nature imagery. I noticed there was one line missing, I guess you were reading from the other source ? In any case, it was probably only an editorial error in the Rover, so we can let it stand like that.

It's PL ok !

Have a nice weekend

Hi Sonia
I was reading from another source, the Boston Miscellany. I usually check my final recording against the Rover scan but forgot this morning as I was trying to do two things at once 👎
I have identified the missing line, I think it must be an editorial omission as the rhyme scheme for verse is not complete without the final line.
Hope you have a good weekend too :D

yes I figured that as well... the Rover could have profitted from a better proofreader  it's not the first time I noticed.

wow that was a fast turn-around, thank you Adam. And the story is really well narrated, and easy to understand, not too fast and not too slow. A great debut for your first section. Hopefully many more to come.

The topic of epidemic is strangely contemporary right now :?

There are a few small things to correct still, but no worries, you do not have to re-record it all again. In fact we encourage spot editing, as it's less time consuming for the reader and for the prooflistener. Editing in Audacity is very easy, you'll see....

Here is what you need to do to this file:

> the volume is exceeding 92 dB, which is our upper accepted limit. Could you highlight the whole text and decrease by -2 at least, to get into a good average of about 89-90 dB ? Here is the step-by-step in Audacity:
1. highlight your recording
2. go to Effect
3. go to Amplify
4. input -2 (don't forget the MINUS sign) in the first upper box (called "amplification dB") – change nothing in the lower box !
5. press ok

> the DC bias is a bit high (-33 – normal would be around -2 to +2). You can regulate this in Audacity:
1. highlight your recording
2. go to Effect
3. go to Normalize
4. make sure the box "Remove DC offset" is ticked and press OK

> at 0:25: for the title, could you please always include the full title I mentioned in the Magic Window, it includes the author if known, in this case here, you'd have to add all the underlined part: ''This Cold'', by Mrs Elizabeth Oakes Smith, author of ''Sinless Child'', etc". To add or correct a sentence, the easiest way is:
1. record it into a new Audacity window
2. noise-clean and amplify
3. copy/paste it onto the correct time-spot in the master file
4. listen to the sentence before and after and tweak the volume a bit manually, to get to a similar volume

> Then simply reupload with the exact same filename and the new file with replace the old one.

> Oh and please, always mention the length of your file (see examples of other readers on this page). It's easier for me to update the magic window then.

Thank you ! And let me know if anything is unclear.

 an excellent patch, the sound of voice is totally matching. I see you will have no problems doing spot editing in future sections.

And that's it, I can congratulate you to your first official PL ok Librivox contribution  now the sky's the limit, as they say  I hope you enjoyed the whole process and that one day, I'll be hearinng you again in another project where I'm prooflistener (maybe even the next Rover, who knows....lots of small sections still available there  )

Have fun ! And thanks

I do like it. You did an excellent job. I did detect some background noises of some sort, but Checker doesn't complain, so I won't make much of it. And it may be my source. At 8:44, you pronounce "unscathed" with a short a, but it is generally with a long a. In other words, unscathed would rhyme with unbathed. I did check around for alternatives but didn't find them. At 13:08, you pronounce "ere" like ear, but it should be like air. I did find some slight variations of ere as air, but nowhere did I find ere as ear. This latter is less an issue, though I did notice it. The former, however, stands out. These are such trivial items in an otherwise perfect performance that I am bit embarrassed to complain.
